because it's harder to make (as in to cook), many believe it's better to taste, and it's actually considered gourmet. Everything gourmet is gonna be more expensive

Probably the economics of supply and demand. Less supply demands more money. I'll be interested in any other answers myself since I've pondered the same question on many different things also.
Additionally, I believe brown rice is rice with the hull on the grain which is soaked off to make white rice. Not polished or even a different variety. That's why it's higher in fiber and also healthier. Or, so it is said. I do like the taste better then some white rice but wild rice, which are long black grains, is my personal favorite.

I do not pay more for regular brown rice then the processed white rice. I do pay a lot more for wild rice because of supply and demand.

Because brown rice is not as much in demand, so less is produced, therefore making the cost per item more. Simple economics. Same thing with buying raw sugar or any other item that is not as much in demand.

brown rice is more of a different grain rtather then the same thing polished down. apparently it;s more healthy. it;s grain charistics are different. for example, generally brown rice has a longer grain while japanese rice has a shorter grain then the average white grain. yup. so it;s not that it;s poliched same kinda grain. but it;s a whole different kind. plus, brown rice is commonly known as natural . which means it;s from the wild? not cultivated by farmers.

hope i'm right and i helped :D

It's because brown rice is a LOT more healthier then white rice. Like, seed and grain bread is more expensive then white bread, because it's healthier

Because it's healthy. Most things healthy seem to cost more. It's funny. Government wants everyone to lose weight but they need to jump the price of twinkies to $2.50 each and whole wheat breads, brown rice etc. down to cheap!!!!!!!!! That would be so nice!!!!

Ahhh, wishful thinking!

Because brown rice is better for you! Haven't you noticed the healthier food costs more? Could it be a conspiracy to make us fat so they can make billions on weight loss products? Hmmmm, it's a thought!
