Vacations are actually work and a little stressful for everyone and coming off of deployment I'm sure the first thing he wants to do is relax. What if someone watched the kids for you for a few days so you and your husband can reconnect. If that is not possible maybe just find a really neat hotel and hang around there. The kids can play in the pool and such and you two can just relax and be together. Reconnecting is what you need so just take an easy.

I don't live in Texas so I don't know any pleases close by BUT I wanted to tell you that I think you are being so thoughtful specially about your kids. They haven't seen their Daddy in a while and I am sure they miss him a lot too, I think you are pretty unselfish for not thinking on living the kids behind, don't worry you will find the nights to reconnect with your husband. I hope you guys have a great vacation!

Texas is a big state and I don't know who you are to be more specific. However, here are a few ideas:

The Dallas-Fort Worth area has a lot to offer in term of family entertainment: museums, rodeos, zoos (Six Flags over Texas opens March 10). Galveston, down on the Gulf Coast has tons of things for a family: rides, nature tours etc..San Antonio has the Riverwalk, Seaworld, the Alamo.....

Are you kidding we just moved from Texas, so much to do! Take them to Corpus Christi & enjoy the beach, quite & family time Extedned stay america deluxe is cheap & has a full kitchen living area in a studio spae plus they give a military discount! Or do Sea World in San Antonio for a fun family time. I would do more quite, valuable time though. Congrats on hubby comming home even if you stay home it will be a retreat.

for a cheap get-away my family goes to a State Park. We stay in a cabin or chalet for cheap. It's not a beautiful decor but the beauty of the outdoors is worth it, and you have a fireplace, room for the kids, TV. They usually have a charcoal grill and a small kitchen. It helps so much to get away to a different environment.
Best wishes to your family.

i agree wholeheartedly with the concepts approximately books and puzzles and a field packed with arts and craft ingredients. straight forward board video games (hi ho cherry oh, zingo, candyland) are additionally sturdy for that age group. a flashlight is likewise cool. reckoning on the climate the place they stay, a childrens' length shovel or rake is likewise a exciting determination. or a plastic sled, in the event that they don't have one. btw, 4 isn't too previous for blocks!! my 6- and eight-year-olds generally turn our set of wood blocks into marble tracks or mazes or all varieties of issues.....

Take em to the Alamo!

If you live close to the NM border, go to Carlsbad Caverns! The caves are amazing, and the kids will probably go through various states of shock, fear and fascination when they see all the (quite harmless, I assure you) bats at the cave entrance.
