Just do it outright. The longer you wait the more awkward it will be. This is about you, not his feelings. He'll get over it. Most men are much more shallow than we want women to think. It makes us seem more sensitive.
Good luck.

Chances are, he has noticed the awkwardness, too, especially if you dont talk much. He probably feels the same way about the relationship as you do. The sooner you call it off, the better. Be nice about it... "I guess youve noticed how weird things have been for a while," "Things just aren't working out like they used to between us," etc., make for decent conversation starters, I guess.

in reality there is no definite words that would not sound hurtful especially when you are breaking up with someone
but the best way is to be honest, tell him youre breaking up with him cause you no longer feel the love you once thought was there, you no longer talk to each other,
and by setting each other free in the process you can find someone better, he will find someone who can make him happy for now, that woman is no longer you, and that man is no longer him, tell him youre ending it because you think you are hindering him from growing, and that you wish him all the best in life and thank him for all the good times you have shared together, tell him he would always mean something to you, but its time to let go

i was stuck in the same situation. i just pulled him a side and told him that I'm really sorry, but we need to break up. and if it's true then be sure to tell him that it wasn't anything that he did it's just that you want to move on. i hope this helps. good luck. i know that this is not a fun situation to be stuck in.

first you need to be honest with you self is that that you really want to do? then just break it down to him and let him know that I don't want any hard feeling but dude I'm not feeling this relationship i hope that we can remain friends who knows may be one day we may be able to hook up but for now we need to go our separate ways. just keep it real!

oh my god your exactly like me!
i just broke up with my boyfriend about 3 hours ago. it was terrible. he was begging me not to and i felt so bad. there's no good or bad way.
make it quick. that was my mistake. it took me about 40 mins to do it which just made it worse. also, say we can be friends, but nothing more.
good luck and hope i helped!!!
also- expect him to be an ******....he's hurt after all.
