I currently have WMP 9, after rolling back from WMP 11 which I hated with a passion. Now I have downloaded version 10 from the WMP website, but when I try to install it, it gives me an error message saying:
"This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site."
I have checked with their help section and did exactly what they said to do if you get this message, and I still can't install it. What do I do now?

I DO NOT want to install WMP 11 so please don' t suggest I do that.

Since you installed WMP 11 and rolled back, unfortunately, the Registry has left over info saying that your comp still has WMP 10 and can't downgrade. You have two choices: 1. Install version 11 and LIVE WITH IT. 2. Tinker with the Registry and GET YOUR PC SCREWED.

That's all. Which would you choose?

EDIT: System Restore is not gonna work. Trust me, I tried myself.

In homestead windows it isn't accessible to position in a decrease version software at the same time as a higer version or the replace of the software is accessible. So with the intention to position in homestead windows Media participant 10, you should uninstall homestead windows Media participant 11 and then deploy the media participant 10. To Uninstall homestead windows Media participant 11 Goto, administration Panel-->upload/get rid of classes and choose homestead windows Media participant 11 which may be on the bottom of the window...

Yeah Microsoft made it that way so you have to stick with WMP11. one suggestion is that try doing a system restore to the date BEFORE you installed WMP11.

Go to Control Panel
Performance and Maintenance
And on the far left column you should see System restore
Click it and pick the radio button that says "Restore my Computer to an earlier time"
Click next and pick the date that was earlier
Continue on and it should work

Hope this works for you

EDIT: If it doesn't work, you can always restore back to the present day.

You have to remove registry keys.
Go back to the support page, print out the instructions and delete the correct keys.

Word of caution, delete the wrong thing and you'll end up with other problems.
