What works for me is:

*Gradually include more fresh vegetables into your diet.

*Slowly replace the fast food (McTaco Jr.'s), preprocessed, high in animal fats(i.e, cheese, ice creams, pork rinds, etc.), high in sugar (soda pop?), with natural, fresher alternatives.

*Moderately paced aerobic exercise (not more than 4-5 days/week, not more than 40 minutes/day) to include:
**Jogging **walking with a light (not more than 10lbs.) backpack
**bicycling, swimming, skipping rope, you get the idea.

Drink more water (H2O is best).

*When I DO snack, a mix of nuts and cranberries (dried/sweetened) usually does the trick until I can get in a workout/make dinner.

Good luck, I hope this helps!

I don't have a regular diet of eating specific things but I have been successful with ensuring I eat smaller meals and frequently, especially in the morning (I'm not a big breakfast eater but when you wake up your body needs fuel...just as a car does when it's on Empty). Usually I'm rushing so it's microwave oatmeal and turkey bacon or a fruit pop tart or banana, and juice. Mid morning or afternoon snack may be a granola bar. I try not to eat after 8 pm. I drink a glass of water first thing in the morning and at night and I sip on water throughout the day. My biggest problem was a craving for snacks, or sweets. When I get the munchies, I have a little popcorn or some nuts, a glass of juice, or a couple of crackers or a granola bar--there are so many varieties of those little bars to choose from. I buy different ones to avoid getting bored or feeling like I'm on a diet. If I do give in to the sweet tooth, I don't obsess about it...just eat a small amount, not the whole cake, etc. A good substitute if you like ice cream, is the regular frozen yogurt (not the diet version) at the local ice cream shop like Braums. I try to "balance" things--I eat a lot less the day after I've pigged out. Also, I find it easy to do without some things or eat less of it such as red meat (just thinking about what possibly goes into some hamburger meat, takes away my desire for it). I'm learning to live without french fries, especially with all the options these days at fast food places...apple wedges, salads, etc. Sometimes I get a child's meal. I also try those "lunchables" with the turkey and cheese and crackers, as a small meal. Try to avoid white sugar (I use raw sugar), white flour, and anything with high fructose syrup in it (beverages), for starters.

Haven't been hungry in the year that I've been on sparkpeople. It is a free site that I use to track my calories and exercise, and make sure that my diet is balanced and I have enough of my vitamins, minerals, and fiber each day. LOVE the site - it lets me eat the things I want, but in the proper portions and not everything all at once. It also eases you into the routine, so you don't feel overwhelmed at the beginning.

Based totally on the concept that diet + exercise = weightloss. Not a magic pill... not eating carbs on alternate days... actual proven science.

I had a stroke and then also found I have diabetes. My entire way of eating has changed. I eat a good breakfast now: egg beaters, turkey bacon, heat healthy oatmeal - no sugar and low or no fat everything.

I eat a lot of fruit and raw vegetables and poultry along with fish. Also drink water to the max and tea during the day - I rarely have a drink of soda.

You do need some forms of complex carbohydrates but not white flour, sugar or most fats.
