I've been dealing with the issue of my religion for a while now. Now, my new bf is trying to convert me. He says he is okay with dating a non-christian right now, but not for very long. As in, he is hoping to convert me (sooner rather than later) so, we can stay together. Should I stay in this relationship? It hasn't lasted bery long. And hec, we're both teens in high school...Would it be smart to change for him? Part of me wants to....Ugh, just any advice would be nice.

Well, I guess the real problem is the fear of Christianity thing. I don't fear chirstians or anything (obviously, since i'm dating one...) But I tried this religion once and part of the reason it didn't work out was b/c i chose it for the wrong reasons. I want him but, I don't want to start worshipping something that seems 'hollow' to me.

Brittany, I think you need to give this some time. Choosing a religion is a very important decision. You should not just convert because your recent high school boyfriend wants you to. You need to convert because, deep in your heart and soul, you realize this is the religion and teaching that you want to follow. If he can't accept you for who you are, I would suggest moving on to someone else.

You should except, not convert, for your own soul. He should stick with a Christian to keep him going on the right path. Being a Christian doesn't mean you have to be some perfect person. It just means you believe in and love the Lord. If you don't stay with him, don't criticize him for being a Christian because it is hard enough esp. on a teen in regular schools. I hope you some day will be a Christian. Being a Christian doesn't mean yall will last 5 minutes together, either. It takes a very strong person to walk in God's will. It takes -zero effort to walk in an ungodly world. Alright. Alright then..
If you look and listen to those who are not Christians they will jump to the chance to hord you away from the idea. I guarantee it. But remeber this, if you are not of God you are of Satan. Satan looses! Pretty much you are picking teams or picking sides. I know some Christains that can't stay out of church for 5 minutes, I know Christians that can't stay out of the bar for 5 minutes. They all love God, But some have to ask forgiveness a little more often.

If he cares for you, then he shouldn't try to change who you are. It's alright for 2 people to have different religion, it just takes hard work to understand each others beliefs. To understand them w/ out causing a fight, you know compromise on things. I made the mistake of trying to change the person that i cared the most about and i ended up loosing him for about a year. Then later down I ran into him again and now I have him back into my life. Hunny just remember if you really truly love someone and they love you back, then they would never ask you to change something about you. That's one of the main things that causes relationships not to last. Don't ever do anything without knowing deep in your heart( 100%) that you actually want to. cause once you do something you really don't want to just so you wont loose a person, you'll end up regretting it in the future. You might even look back and realize how stupid you were when you were a kid. Take my advice and I'm not even a mother yet, but I've been around.... Talk to your parents about this, they can and will give you the best advise that anyone else can. but take my world when or if you do ask your parents make sure you tell them " look I'm asking for your advice, but understand that I'll take into consideration but i still might make my own choice about it." But be polite when you say it. I hope this helped alot.

Some of the best love advice I ever got was that you have to love yourself before you can love anybody else. You have to love yourself enough to know just what your own beliefs are, and respect yourself for having those beliefs, and hope you have a partner that respects you for standing up for what you believe in.
I would decide that I'm going to tell my friend the truth, and take time out if I need to find out just what the truth is. If you become a Christian, do it because that's what you would do even if the boyfriend -wasn't- in the picture. If you decide not to become a Christian, tell him so and see whether his character rises to the level of his beliefs.

If he believes that being Christian is just acting Christianly, he doesn't understand Christianity anyway. You don't become Christian because someone WANTS you to. You have to believe in Jesus. If you don't want to then he will not make you. Instead, he will just force you further from God. Tell him you could pretend, but that would just get tiresome for both of you so you don't want that. Then further tell him pushing you into it only makes you want to resist it. AND if he is a true believer, what would be better to him, you acting like a Christian until you reject it completely, or you becoming a real Christian when you are ready? Ask him if prefers you burn in the deepest darkest depths of hell fire, just to pretend to please him? OR would he rather that you see the glory of God in God's timing?

DUMP HIM!
There's no way that you would stop being who you are, just because he wants to date another type of personality. This is the same situation.
Struggling with your view of religion is part of who you are right now. And that's something that you don't base on someone telling you what THEY want you to do.
If you ever decide to believe in a god, or gods or no god at all, it's something you have to belief because YOU'VE decided that is what you belief.
And in the mean time, tell him to screw off ... if he wants to date a christian girl, he can pick someone from his youth class at church.
It's not fair for him to ask you to change.

Religious beliefs are very personal. You should never them base on someone else's expectations. If you do not understand/agree with his beliefs the relationship is doomed. He is right, it would be against the teachings of the bible for him to continue in a relationship with someone who does not share his faith. My advice is this: you are too young to be making life decisions to accomodate your partner. You are too young to know who you want to be with forever. Ask him to give you time/space, focus on resolving your own issues with religion/God without taking his opinion into account. Talk to an adult, someone that you respect and trust, about religion. Voice your concerns. When you have your heart settled about go religion back and talk to him and see if you two agree.

I apologize for my account/avatar; it's not my real acount! But anyway, this guy has it right! Just try going to church with him a few times. Depending on his church, I'm sure you'll like it! But don't feel like you're being pressured into it, because then it won't mean a thing and you'll just be there because of him. Good luck! I hope you discover the Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world! :)

THis is between you and God. Not you and your boyfriend. Try to spend some time alone in prayer and meditation (thinking about God) and read the Bible (preferably after you've first prayed for understanding) to find out for yourself if you are ready. If not, it is not a good idea to be "pushed into it". This may take some time, do not rush things.

If you change your religion for a boy, then it is totally meaningless and wrong. He should understand that no one has a right to interfere with the relationship between you and God. He sounds controlling and not very mature.
