Besides going to a therapist, who would probably advise you to try something similar, you would expose yourself to the phobia repeatedly, first by photos to soften the blow. Then, you will become less fearful of whatever you are afraid of, and be able to face it in the real world. Hope this is helpful. Don't just attack the phobia all at once. This could be traumatic. Allow yourself this gradual climb back. Take care. And you can do it! :)

Well, I have social anxiety disorder and panic disorder, which are sort of social phobias. I really don't know if phobias can be cured, but I know they can be managed and a person can progressively work through them (enough to be cured? Maybe). I have found that the best thing to do is to confront your fear.

I was afraid of driving. So afraid that at the age of 20, my husband had to trick me into taking my driving test by telling me he was taking me to the movies! By the time I realized where we were and what was going on, he had already signed me up and I was driving the course. I was terrified, but somehow I passed, and after that, it was just a matter of making myself drive. After a while I got used to it and now I'm only slightly nervous on occassion.

The same goes for other areas. Phone calls, appointments, shopping, etc. Basically anything where I have to be out in public and interacting with people makes me feel panicky. But I have come so far over the years by just making confronting these issues head on.

Now I can drive, order food, go to appointments, go shopping, and go to parties. 7 years ago I couldn't hardly leave the house to check the mail.

So, with determination and courage, it can get better.

First you must confront your fear slowly and with someone that you trust to be there to help you. Do it again and again till you are able to do it alone. Breathing, meditating help, If you cannot do it then see someone in the field of Phobias. At least tell your Doctor, they are better at handling this than we are.
