Max had shots, bloodwork and monitoring for a limp at the vet today. He's been there all day. 5 hours ago he came home, peed on the floor and hid. My other cat Zoe has been trying to attack him since he has been home. Zoe also tried attacking our other cat Alley, myself and my fiance. What should I do? I have tried to seperate them in rooms, and Zoe seemed to calm down, but as soon as I let him out, he immediately attacked Max. Please help!!!

the other cat may smell foreign to your other cat. Vet smells bewilder cats. try wrapping the cat in one of his blankets or else give him a bath.

I would keep Zoey in "confinement" for tonight and let him chill out for a bit. Maybe tomorrow try putting a small amount of vanilla extract on each cats nose and a dab under the tails. You can use scented hand cream too. The cat who went to the vet has picked up "strange" smells from being there and this is upsetting Zoey. When they all smell the same things will calm down.

It does seem strange to me that Zoey would attack people and the other cat who was home with him. That's why I wish people would keep a bottle of Rescue Remedy in the house for just this sort of situation. It would help Zoey calm down.

Max smells different becuase he's been to the vet. There's not much you can do for now but to keep the cats separated. For the night, pu Max in his carrier with the door closed so that Max can't attack him while you sleep. Then as soon as it is safe for Max, give ALL your cats a bath and shampoo so that they will all begin to smell the same again.

My cat Charlie who is my spoiled baby always gets jealous when the other, Max goes to the vet so we usually take them both. Charlie just goes for the ride and after getting back, he is settled right down. He used to cause such a commotion when we only took Max but now things are cool between them when they both get equal attention. Otherwise, dope 'em up with the catnip when one is on edge...works for our kitties!

Keep Zoe locked up. For the times he is out, get a water gun and silently squirt him each time he attacks. Be sure you do not make any noise so he doesn't associate the water with you. Sometimes that trick works and sometimes the cat's too smart. In that case you'll have to keep him locked up or knock his fool-kitty head off!

give them both a bath so they smell the same again. It is the smell from the vets that the other one doesn't like.
