I get quite irritated when I am cooking something and someone comes in the kitchen and opens the oven or tries to find out what I am coooking. I don't know why it bothers me sooo much but it does. Is there another person out there who feels this way? Do you have any ideas why it bothers someone?

Did you try asking them to simply ask verbally instead of peek into things? I don't know if it's true since I've never tried it, but I was taught that when baking cake or pie, one shouldn't open the oven during baking or it won't rise properly. So they could even spoil things just peeking in. If you also object to verbal questions I think it is a bit over-sensitive, but they should keep their fingers off! Perhaps if you just talked to the people who're doing it you could come to an agreement like that?

I absolutely hate it. I usually tell them - go sit in the den or living room, as my kitchen is too small for more than one person cooking at a time. If they don't get the hint, I have been known to gently grab them by the arm and usher them into the living room.

My dad was like that. I stayed out of the kitchen when he was cooking. And, when I am cooking, I jokingly tell others to get of the kitchen, then offer them to sit down and have a drink.

I live in a studio apartment that has a very small kitchen. I cannot STAND anyone even coming into my kitchen at all. It's very much a question of being crowded for me! Why you feel that way, I'm not sure...but I do understand it, I'm sure you're not the only one!

I hate it when people take a spoon and start eating out of the pot pretending to taste, or when you just finished creating a beautiful platter and they take a couple of pieces leaving it to look like it's unfinished. Yes, I'm very irritated by people coming into my kitchen. It's like someone going into your garage and messing with all your tools and touching all your stuff.

Are you easily hurt by ignorant comments like...
What is that you're cooking?
It smells like (name food) but looks like (name other food).
Are you cooking roast? Wow! My mom used to make the BEST roast!

Any of the above seem innocent enough, but to the sensitive cook, they could be devastating. (What, can't you recognize roast when you see it? How can MY roast look like lamb? I can't possibly compete with your memory of your mother's roast.)

Also, if you are particularly territorial, you just are. You may need to sit down with some note paper and think this one through.
