I am dancer (on pointe) and in the last 6 months I have realize that whenever I bend my big toe, it cracks. And its both toes. Why is this? I really want to know and should I see a doctor? i might already because my left big toe bone is fat and stubby and my right big toe isnt, and I can't even spread my big toes apart. Help please? Preferably from a doctor or dance?

It's not wierd. I had a problem with the balls of my feet, they were inflamed and it really affected my toes. They were even spreading too far apart for a while! The doctor showed me how to make a splint out of tape and put it around just one toe, and it made a huge difference. I only had to wear it for a month plus wear better shoes (no soft soles) and then everything was back in shape. So I would say check with an orthopedist, there is a good chance the balls of your feet might be swollen and throwing your toes askew. The big toe looks fat because it's swollen.

My husband a DC Doc said you are damaging the joints and ligaments in the toe by something you are doing over time. You need to find someone who works on feet such as a Chiropractor or a Chiropodist preferable one who works on feet because if you allow this to go on you will lose the ability to dance if not corrected. This is not normal To crack like that in the toes.
I asked my husband about your problem.

wow.. my big toes do this too! it doesn't hurt and they don't look any different then they ever have. i thought i was the only one with weird toes! i wasn't ever a dancer, but i was a gymnast for a while and a soccer player all my life. I've never seen a doctor about this though. anyway, i hope its nothing serious.

you're putting pressure on the toe and it's drying up with the friction.. materials that are against it all day long..

it's getting callused up and it's splitting.. that's why they make foot soakers.. lotions and kits to take care of those poor tootsies of yours.

time to start pampering those feet.. they're the only pair you got.

:D

check out ebay for these things.. and local stores.. sears... walmart.. other places..

they can come cheap to rather expensive.. pedicure it!

some kits have sanders.. and now you'll understand why.
there's also foot stones.. paraffin... anything to soften the blow of over worked feet.

toes, like fingers, will crack. Normal unless there is pain or deformity.
