I sacrificed paying almost my whole paycheck so that I can live in a nice neighborhood in the valley of LA so that my children can go to a good public school. Why the heck do they bus these kids in from Pacoima. Let me explain to you what Pacoima is like. It is another mexican tijuana, gang and drug infested and just plain ghetto as fock. Even black folks dont want to live there. I drop my son off at school every morning and they have like 4 huge buses full of these kids being dropped off at his school. A good majority of them constantly ask my son what gang he claims and if he belongs to a "set". I am sick and tired of this! My child is there to learn. Ok am I overreacting?

@FOA Im actually moving to Oregon. I make sure to check out the site greatschools.com to check out the racial breakdowns. Now mind you, im of mixed race for those of you who may think im a white racist. Im a person of color who has class and would like to be around others who have class.

@KRH- if i would have been wiser in my younger years I would have gotten a degree so that I could be making more money to be able to send them to private school. Unfortunately, being a single mother sucks and Im broke but I do not have a poor mentality. I am breaking free from California though and I know the problem is going to get worse due to the invasion on America.

You are not overreacting, but are the unfortunate victim of political correctness tainted policy being implemented by local government. The theory is preposterous, but government offices tend to be full of non-thinking types who find ever more ways to interfere with our lives, waste our taxpayer money, and contribute to a lower standard of living for people like yourself. They should conduct their ridiculous experiments on themselves before unleashing this insanity on those looking for a better life, away from the "bad element" with which they wish to integrate your kids (and from which you try to escape).

Absurd does not begin to describe it.

You're not overreacting. For some reason, schools seem to be the only taxing districts in which we associate tax levels with services.

When Bush sends the troops to war, we don't need a bond referendum on which people say yes or no, congress just adds the cost to the deficit and we pay for it later with interest.

Most items are paid out of general funds but if we want a new school or more teachers or after school programs it all goes on a referendum vote to see if people want to pay for it.

Of course this is local politics so it's not exactly the same for everyone in the country but the scenario I'm describing is extremely common coast to coast.

Now add the Supreme Court ruling that says there are no such thing as separate but equal schools. That led the way to bussing to afford top education to everyone even if the live in a poor part of town or county or state. That means one area can vote down all the referendums, have crappy schools and then work to have their children bussed to better districts. Of course, there are other aspects. Typically districts and cities that don't support their schools loose out on property value appreciation.

Many parts of the country particularly the southeast have abandoned public education almost entirely. The middle class and affluent send the children to private schools and the municipalities don't fund the private schools so all children below the middle class simply go to all day long day care until they graduate the 12th grade.

Here's the thing. Thomas Jefferson said that a free society must have a strong public education system. It is required to educate and train good citizens but also to enable all social strata to be productive. He was right of course but we have been dropping the ball of 50 or 80 years to varying degrees across the country.

We have to build a strong public education system that educates everyone. I know there are some serious fiscal problems with illegals in California and there are other problems across the country. But if you ask me, we have to get everybody educated or else the affluent classes of America will all have to move into walled communities and we'll move back closer and closer to feudal societies instead of free societies.

Well, I'm sure this is more than anyone wanted to hear from me but take it and use what you can and throw away whatever you think is garbage.

Hel l no ur not overreacting... Unfortunately until President Bush is directly affected by illegals and their crime, nothing will be done (maybe the next President will do something).. If not, then it's sad to say that ALL public schools will be the same way one day.. My nephew is in 6th grade and I fear what will happen to his future job wise and violence wise.. they have a school here for toublemakers and those that screw up the public school.. the problem is there are not enough teachers who want to want to work these kids/future criminals. When I was in school my parents never had to worry about me being SHOT and maimed.. but now, it' s just common place.. A lot of good, teachers have changed careers because of this.. U should not be afraid to go to a job u love because u are afraid u won't come home.

I don't know why school districts do the things they do. I'm a teacher...and I am fed up of dealing with kids that go to school for everything but education. This nation loses tons of good teachers each year for this reason.

Gangbangers, druggies, and other losers should be sent to a military academy or something, they shouldn't be interfering with your kids' education. It sucks. Private schools are an option, but I don't know how much better they are.

But you know, LA is well known for gangs and such...unless you are in Beverly Hills or whatever. You might reconsider your place in life. If you can, relocate, either outside of LA, or outside of Cali.

Good luck to you!

You are a smart woman to move. I believe that you will be much happier in Oregon and find the schools much better for your children. You are right, having class and not wanting to be around scum does not make you racist, you can find scum in every color and ethnicity and California is the gold mine of it. Good luck in Oregon.

This is sad racism. The busing exists in an attempt to equalize the educational opportunities of people who live in districts deprived by resources because they go to wealthy districts like yours. I am proud you have a little extra money in your pocket, I really am. But all children deserve a right to an equal education, regardless of whether you like the color of their skin or not. Why can't your child learn in a diverse environment? Have you indoctrinated them with racist beliefs to the point of them unable to function around people who are not white?

Interesting, why is this in immigration, are you saying all of the bussed in kids are illegals or are you trashing Mexicans in general. Ask the school district if are really interested and not just being racist.

"Even black folks don't want to live there."
What do you mean by that?

To answer your question, yes you are overreacting. Just move or send him to private school.

You would have been better off moving into a cheaper neighborhood and city (still a nice one, yet cheaper) and putting that extra money you saved towards sending your kids to a private school instead of a public school.
