Proctor and Gamble took over the Iam's company a few years back, reformulated the food with cheaper ingredients, to make it a cheaper food that department stores can now keep on their shelves.
Iam's is no where near the quality of pet food it used to be, but it never was a food I would select for my pets.

Iams DOES test their food on dogs. IT basically runs a puppy mill/kitty mill where their animals are kept in small cages with no affection, etc etc. You can look at this website for more information on the cruelty they force on animals: http://www.iamscruelty.com/
Besides this Iams is HORRIBLE for your dog.
In IAMS CHUNKS the first ingredients are
Chicken By-Product Meal*
Ground Corn*
Rice Flour*
Ground grain sorghum
Animal Fat*
In IAMS LAMB AND RICE the first ingredients are
Lamb Meal
Rice Flour*
Ground Corn*
Ground Grain Sorghum*
Fish Meal
More information about the starred products can be found at http://www.iei.net/~ebreeden/kibble.html
Just so you know, MEAL and BYPRODUCT are a fancy way of saying that they are feeding your dog ground up bones and such rather than actual meat. Also, corn is HORRIBLE for your dog. Think of a human. Do we digest corn well? NO! How do you think a dog would be able to digest it?
Although REAL dog food costs twice as much, the dogs will only eat half as much, poop less, and overall, be much healthier!

You can read the ingredients on any bag or can of dog food. Every bag of Iams I have ever looked at had corn and chicken by products (beaks, feet, lungs, etc) as the first two ingredients. That doesn't seem very healthy to me, and I think Purina ONE and ProPlan are much better diets. There are a lot of really good diets on the market these days, but those two are readily available in Petsmart, Target, WalMart, etc.

Iams and Eukanuba are both owned by Proctor and Gamble, a company notorious for animal testing for cleaning products, beauty products, makeup and all other products products by the corporation. In 2001, a group uncovered mass animal testing and abuse of dogs and cats in the companies care. Now, humane societies and animal welfare groups are still working to show the world the practices of Iams while also trying to get them to stop. Animal testing is unnecessary and does not prove anything or benefit anyone. We as humans are not animals. The reactions animals have to products may greatly differ from those of humans. Just look at simple products such as Tylenol and chocolate which are both safe for human consumptions but can kill a dog or cat within hours of ingesting it. Thanks you for not feeding your pets Iams and hopefully you can encourage everyone you know to avoid the company also.

I have heard this as well. The only thing I do know is I feed and have fed for years " store brand " dog foods and have had great success. I have a friend who owns one of my puppies and all he feeds is eukanuba and he swears by it. I just read today a statement by a CEO of a well known Pet food company that Premium dog foods can and do contain by products of dead dogs and cats. Bone meal?Depending on the writter of the site you may get totally different answers but for me I feed off the shelf store brand along with a mix of Purina products.

It was true a few years ago. I don't know if they've changed anything or not.
The animals they test the food on lived in truely awful conditions and abuse.
I will never feed my animals Iams because of that.

Yes. They take animals from pounds, free ads, or even breed them in some cases to use in experiments on their dog foods. You shouldn't buy Iams or Eukanaba for this reason. It's crap food anyways...loads of fillers and byproducts.

The old "Iams cruely" thing was proven to be false and doctored animal rights propaganda YEARS ago! PeTA doesn't like IAMS because IAMS refused to support their radical views and anti-animal agenda.
That said, I would never feed their food, I don't like it.
