Lifting weights can do tons of cardio work too -- if you don't believe it, do a quick set or two of weights, then take your pulse!!

Obviously what you're doing now isn't working that well. Let's look at this:

1. Start a food diary to see what you're really eating. I'm betting there are fries and chips in there, which are nature's perfect food -- which immediately go to fat if you're not working like an Amish farmer!!!

2. If you lift weights you might gain weight. Relax! If you gain muscle, then that will cause a weight gain. However, you'll burn fat and lose inches. In this case, more muscle and less fat is what you're after, and even if you don't lose a pound you'll be much healthier. For instance, Hulk Hogan was over 300 pounds in his prime, but (aside from the massive steroid use) very healthy, while most 300 pound people are simply fat.

Here's the deal:

Muscle burns more CALORIES than fat, but muscle does not burn fat. So basically, if you lift weights you will build muscle but it will be hidden underneath the fat.

The ideal thing for you to do is keep eating healthy small meals 5-6 times a day (like 200-300 calories each meal). Then try to include some cardio activity in your workout. If you have a gym membership, try doing 15 minutes on the treadmill running as much as you can or walking fast, 15 minutes on the bike, and 15 minutes on the elliptical. Do this ALONG with your weight training.

If you can't get to the gym, try going to the local high school and running around the track. 4 laps is one mile, try to keep running as long as you can before you have to walk. And keep drinking LOTS of water or you'll get sick!

This way you burn fat while still buidling muscle. Running burns fat all over your body, elliptical focuses more on arms and legs, and biking will burn fat in your thighs and calves. Then do strength training to work on those trouble areas that we all have.

You should lose a lot of weight and look GREAT if you do this.

You really aren't going to lose much fat from your body unless you cut back on your calorie intake and do more cardio.

No matter if the calories you are taking in are good quality ones, any excess that you don't burn in your daily activities will get converted to fat. To lose weight, you need to cut out the overeating. That will stop continual fat gain.

To get rid of the fat you already have, you need to do cardio. Yes, the more muscle you have helps raise your calorie burning requirements, but cardio is really what is going to get you the big results.

you are on the right path, just remamber it takes time....i am trying to do the same thing as you, well 22 pounds will do it for me for me dont know for you. The thing is my plan is the opposite of yours in the exercise aspect, I will eat properly, but wont do nearly as many weights, as I do cardio, but what you said is true, muscle burns more calories than fat... but i wont do weights because i would like to get lean (im 20 %bf and want to be 10%bf than lift) so i dont get bulky with the muscle growing under the fat. But i dont now, the only thing is to watch your caloric intake from 1800 maximum calories a day to 1200 minimum....you can use this web page to keep track, set goals, and get information:

www.fitday.com ...check it out, it will only help, its easy to use, and i bet you will like it

hope it works, and be patient, dont try to lose more than 1 - 2 lbs per week...if you do its either water, or likelly to come back on.

ohh and BTW one pound is = 3 500 calories...so by cuting 500 calories a day you will lose a pound per week...add another 500 burned from exercise and make it 2 lbs per week......you can easily cut 500 cals a day by eating a little less, check out the web page I posted, it will help you on this aswell.

If you are doing something, anything you will burn calories and fat. If you ran 5 miles a day you'd burn it off ALOT quicker, but fast isn't always the best thing. The important thing is if you enjoy what your doing......is weight lifting fun for you? If it is then you'll keep doing it and you will burn off fat slowly but surely. Being fitter and trimmer is the cause of a lifestyle, not a "diet".
