I feed my cats Purina One dry food eveyday. I stopped using Whiskas canned food as it has too much fat and salt in it for my 10 m/o is a bit over-weight. Sometimes I give them a bit of beef mince or gravy beef with their dry food.

I usually go through 250g (grams) of it per day for the 3 cats. Is that enough food for them or is it too much/too little.

I always have fresh, clean water available for them throughout the day, especially now as it is Summer.

I'm worried that I might be feeding them too much. My 10 m/o cat usually eats the most so sometimes there isn't much left for the little cats.

No, my cats are not on a feeding schedule and I don't plan to restrict their food by only leaving it out for 60 (over all) minutes per day.

I don't usually break the 250g up throughout the day as they are used to having the food bowl out all day if they want a nibble to eat.

Bark: My vet told me to stop the wet food as it is salty and has a lot of fat in it. I didn't think that was true as my 14 y/o (passed away) cat was on Whiskas wet food and Whiskas dry food for all her life and she was never over-weight. The other vet told me the same thing. They only told me to stop feeding the wet food as my cat was over-weight. After reading the satchel packets, it said 3-4 satchels per day for a 10 m/o cat so that's what I was feeding.

I've read the bag and I folled the directions for a while but after getting the 3rd kitten (they share the SAME bowl for water and food) the food ran out throughout the day.

Good quality canned food does not make cats fat. Natural Balance and Wellness are two canned food that have high quality meat protein and not a bunch of flavor additives or coloring that is the in grocery store foods.

All Purina products contain much too much corn and by-product meat and are not healthy for cats and can be very fattening for some. All that corn does not satisfy your cat's need for wholesome meat protein and they eat a lot of it trying to feel satisfied. If you must feed dry food use one that has 2/3 meat protein and not 2/3 corn. At first they will seem to eat a lot and eventually they will eat less of the better food.

I think you do not live in the US and don't know what foods are available to you. Nestle is the corporation producing the Purina and they are an international company.

You can go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food". That will help you to read labels on whatever food you get to determine the quality and appropriateness of the food you choose.

I feed the same food (Purina One Kitten - Growth & Develpment - Real Chicken) for my kittens so here is what it says on the back of the packet.

3 - 6 weeks: 1/4 - 1/3 cup (29 - 39g) Divide into 3 - 4 portions.

7 weeks - 6 months: 1/3 - 3/4 cup (39 - 88g) Divide into 3 - 4 portions.

7 months - 1 year: 1/2 - 3/4 cup (58 - 88g) Divide into 2 portions.

Over 1 year: 1 cup (117g) 1 portion. * Adjust accordingly to maintain ideal body condition.

Edit: I don't think it would be too bad. Maybe cut it down to approx. 170g per day instead of 250g.

I probably won't convince you of this, but any respectable
vet these days will tell you canned food is best for cats
and in fact, they will keep thinner if fed canned food in
proper amount since they digest it more efficiently.

EDIT:
Yeah, I'm no expert so it could depend on the specific case.
My vets always said to diet them on dry food until the last
couple times I went over the last few months when they said
new evidence suggests they've been wrong all this time.

Read the bag, or look at the Purina website.
