I bought my dress there and I have some time before I need alterations. I know they give you complimentary services like press steaming it when they're done but I was just wondering if they are worth what they charge or if I should go somewhere else. I live in Cookeville, TN and the DB store is in Nashville TN

If you have a tailor or seamstress, I would go to them. In my opinion, David's Bridal alterations are expensive and slipshod. I have a few friends who purchased wedding dresses and I have had several bridesmaid dresses from there. On every occasion, their measurements to order the dress were WAY OFF and the dresses had to be majorly altered (hence more $$$$ for them). All brides went with DB's tailors and it was very expensive. I used them once and spent more on alterations than I did for the dress. Since then I have gone to my own tailor and was much happier with the results and the price. (On two different dresses, even though I asked them to order no more than one inch larger than the measurements taken, the dresses were HUGE and I ended up with enough fabric from each for a whole new dress!) If you don't have a seamstress or tailor, ask one of your friends or a high end local department store who they use. Make sure they have done previous work on wedding dresses. Best Wishes!

I wouldn't. I bought my dress at DB for about $500 on sale. I figured that alterations would be maybe $100 or so. You know, that they'd give you a break since you did just spend some major money with them! Nope. I ended up paying almost $300 for my alterations! So much for buying a dress on sale. The hem alone was $120 (if I'm remembering correctly). I think that's how they get you there. They get you to buy a dress and then the alterations cost nearly as much.

Nooooo!!! I had so many problems with DB that I swear I will never set foot in their store again. I took my dress to a woman I know who does alterations, and she did a fantastic job for literally half the price. Start checking around for a good alterations place before you bite the bullet.

DON'T DO IT!!! It's much better to find another place to do the alterations. With my wedding dress...they hemmed it about 2 inches too short!! And when I got it back (3 weeks before the wedding) I had to pay someone else to re-do it. In another case, my friend had them do her alterations and it was supposed to be ready about a month before the wedding. When she went to pick it up they couldn't find it and said they had no record of her ever dropping the dress off. When she freaked out the manager asked her to leave the store! It was terrible!! They called a few days later and said they had found it (probably crumpled in the corner or something). She went to go and get her dress back and it was stained all around the bottom. She ended up having to pay big bucks (just like I did) to get the dress cleaned and altered. Don't trust one of the most important parts of your wedding to them! Trust me!!!

It would be nice if you had your own seamstress. If you don't then you may as well trust David's Bridal, it would be the same as having to trust a new seamstress. I have never gotten anything altered at David's Bridal, but I got my prom dress altered at a dress shop before and had to end up taking it to my seamstress because they didn't do it right. After that, I took my wedding dress to my seamstress.

Chances are they are going to know the dresses that they sell the best. Their services aren't as expensive as going to a dry cleaner and getting the dress altered.

If you have a place you know and trust then go there. While I was in high school the place that I would take my dresses to would press steam the dresses when they were done to. Go where you feel more at ease.

My friend bought hers at a DB and she also had them alter it. It turned out fine.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! They altered my dress, the bussell came down. I asked them to check the buttons in the back (because they felt loose) they fell off in the ceremony!! And they didn't check any of the beading. Now that is just my experience, but it you do go with them, check their work before you leave with your dress.

I have found over the years that it is best to patronize the place where I purchased. You SHOULD get the best service...

Why not make it an adventure and take your Mom-in-law to be, or your Maid of Honor with you and have a girls day out!
