I count 10 attacks so far..what's wrong, people! We are letting this great breed get out of control!
I am afraid it is because we don't aknowlige that it CAN be a dangerous breed, and don't respect it enough..What can we do to save it?

Cities all over are banning our breed, and if you look at these answers, you will know why! Please don't be blinded by your own feelings, and find a way to help this breed. .whether it is thru education or whatever we have to do..Get rid of ANY aggressive pits, even if you love them.

Been threatened but it was by a pit bull rescued from dog fighting and was still going through rehabilitation. It would have been my own fault though because I was aware that he was on the property but had forgotten. All it was was growling though, he neevr acted on anything and 20 seconds later was happily panting. I even pet him afterwards. I had forgotten the rules to being around a dog with that history so the dog wasn't to blame. His upbringing is what was wrong, he is an innocent victim. My sister has one of his daughters and she couldn't be a bigger lap dog baby!

A pit bull has tried to attack my (puppy) twice. Both times on lead but the second time the owner was drunk (Loser)
I have come across two Pit Bulls and both have been dog aggressive. So the breed to me at the moment are 100% aggressive and this makes me not like the breed. I would like to say though that at least the owners had the dog on a lead. Even if the idiot was drunk. (what a complete fool) Anyway - You say the breed is great I say they are dangerous.

Not attacked, but a neighbor's pit bull is threatening my dog - and it's still a puppy. I'm concerned about it being very dangerous when it reaches maturity.
Even though the pup looks like it's only about 4 or 5 months old, it has already started charging and barking ferociously at my dog through the fence (a wooden fence with no openings).
The pup is friendly to me (I've made a special effort to make friends with it), but I'm worried about it breaking through the fence and attacking my dog.
My dog is friendly with the other neighbors' dogs (including another neighbor's pit bull mix), so this problem seems unique to the pure pit bull puppy. I'm currently making plans to reinforce our fence all along the bottom, as it won't be long before that pup is strong enough to break through the wooden planks if he chooses to.

No one in my family, including my dogs, has ever been attacked or threatened by a pit bull. My opinion is, it all depends on how the owner of the dog raises it. If the dog is aggressive or if it attacks, it's the owners fault, not the dogs, because if the dog is aggressive, it's because it's the only way he's been taught to be, he doesn't know any different.

Yes I had a dog that got attacked by 2 pits, but like I said in my statement... IT'S NOT THE BREED, IT'S THE STUPID PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT TRAIN THESE BREEDS TO BE AGRESSIVE. Any breed has been known to be agressive in there background. These sweet loyal and loving dogs should NOT be Banned. And know I'm not letting my own feelings get in the way of this breed, i'm putting their feelings ahead of me. I'm tired of seeing all these animals dieing for something they shouldn't have to.

There is a wonderful book called "Dogs Bite but Balloons and Slippers are more Dangerous" by Janis Bradley. This demystifies some of the hysteria surrounding "pitbull attacks".
I am not casting aspersions on people, as there are definitely too many pitties out there not being handled and socialized properly, but there are also lots of people saying they were "attacked" by a pitbull, when they weren't.
Most people think they know what a pitbull looks like, but couldn't identify one if it did bite them in the ***. Lots of panicked people just assume if a dog looks threatening, it must be a Pitbull. Lots of "attacks" reported by the papers as pitbull attacks are later found out to be other breeds of dogs, but that information doesn't get the prominent press of a so-called Pitbull attack.
For instance, the lady that got the world's first face transplant, how many of you believe it was a pitbull that did it? It was her own Labrador Retriever that bit her face off.
Take the Find the Pitbull test, see how you do?
Some are honestly mistaken by the breed of the dog. There are many "bully" breeds who aren't pitbulls, or pit type dogs. It really takes someone who studies the breed and dogs in general to know for sure, and even then the "experts" disagree.
Some interpret any dog barking or lunging at them as an attack.
My Golden Retriever barks and lunges at people. But he isn't "attacking" them. I was muzzle punched by a young German Shepherd in class last night, but he wasn't "attacking" me. I wasn't happy about it, but if he'd meant to hurt me, he would have.
Humans just aren't fast enough to avoid getting bitten if a dog is intent on it. There is no "He meant to bite me, but I dodged in the nick of time".
Yes, I know pitbulls do bad things. Most of them are owned or bred by idiots. I had a staff member, a young guy who thought it was cool to breed pitbulls. I was horrified and nearly fired him for that, but decided I couldn't educate him if he wasn't around.
Didn't work. He's still breeding pitbulls from a place of profound ignorance.
Remember, thousands more children are killed by their own parents than by pitbulls. And hundreds of thousands more people are maimed and murdered by family members than Pitbulls.

Never owned one and never been threatened by one. But I think they are great dogs.
In a client's office today they had a Pittbull. He wanted to have his ears scratched while I was trying to work on their computer. More of a pain in the butt than anything else, he just wanted to be friends.
Pits, like several other classes of large, strong dogs are misunderstood and all too often mistreated or feared. Dogs are generally nicer than many people, they really don't want to hurt you unless they have been treated badly.
Of the hundreds of dogs I've been around, only one ever even tried to bite me. That one was just big enough to get my ankle. I should have stepped on him.

Never. I have heard of people's dogs being attacked by them though. It is a shame that these dogs have gotten such a bad reputation. The breed, like many others, can be unpredicatable, but most are as sweet as can be, friendly, happy, and submissive to people. It irritates me--the ignorance of people who say they "don't trust" pitbulls just because they are pitbulls. (Most dog bite cases that end up in hospitals are caused by labs and other "friendly" breeds). Many shelters are forced to put them down before even evaluating them because of bans against pits, and because of the fact that everyone is too uneducated and afraid of them to adopt them. They are dying every day for nothing.

I have only had good experiences with Pitt Bulls. Pit Bulls, I believe, can have a very sweet disposition. I happen to adore them, but I'm moving to a base (my husband's in the Army) where they instilled "breed regulations". I think it's ridiculous, because any dog can be raised to be bad if it's mistreated. I have an Olde English Bulldogge until we get civilian housing and I can get my own lil Pit Bull pup! :)

My fear of pit bulls has to do with the capacity of the damage they can do because of their psi jaws. All dogs are animals, lest we forget. My mutt dog is evidently part pit which I did not know or I wouldn't have gotten her. I would have missed out on the best dog I've ever had. She is great with my grandbaby and everyone. It has made me re-think my opinion but then again, it comes down to the physical strength and capacity of the pit that makes me fear them and worry about being around them.
