How to hard boil an egg (truly): Heat the water to boiling, with a spoon, ease in the egg (a cold egg will not crack in the hot water, a CRACKED egg will crack) turn down heat to simmer and cook for 14 MINUTES. Rinse in cold water, allow to cool, and peel. You yolk will be a sunny yellow, the white will be white as snow. It took me years to learn how to hard boil an egg properly. The soft boiled ones are so dependent on taste you have to experiment. I like 6 minutes, but a lot of people think that is overdone.

Place egg in cold water, bring up to a boil, cover, remove from heat and let sit for 14 min. Plunge egg into cold water. Egg will be cooked with no green ring around the yolk

lf you are at a high altitude you may want to invest in a pressure cooker...

at lower altitudes, it takes about 10 minutes to hard boil an egg and about 7 minutes to soft boil one.. depends upon your altitude.. longer at higher altitudes and less time at low altitude.

I never boil just one -- very inefficient, energy-wise -- but 10 -11 minutes ought to do it.

Cook up extra, they're good snacks and you can put them in salads, too.
