to call the Doctors at night and discuss a patients condition and talk about tests we have done on them. There is a Doctor that is very rude to her and refuses to talk to her about her patients even though she is the one that does all the test, He will ask to speak to me instead even though I have to ask her the questions he is asking me since I did not do the patient. She gets very upset and feels like he is descriminating against her because she has been doing her job for 23 yrs. and has never had a dr. treat her like this before. He said because of her speech not being clear (but nobody has ever had problems understanding her before ) that it could be a safety issue with the patients. She told our supervisor that she felt like he was descriminating against her and our Supervisor told her that "HE DID NOT HAVE TO TALK TO HER AND IT WASN"T HIS FAULT THAT HE COULDN"T UNDERSTAND HER!" well, that shocked even me. Does she have a right to feel the way she does?

I was born physically deformed. Holt Oram syndrome

I'm 57 years old and have found that throughout my life there have been people more sensitive towards me than others.

We all have special abilities, sometimes that can be the ability to understand others. I have found that there are those that have difficulty in understanding human speech.Rather than admitting to there weaknesses and then working on them, they will make others feel inferior. I have the unusual ability to interpret speech patterns in order to understand what others are saying especially those with speech impairments or mental handicaps. Since I have this uncanny ability I must assume that there are those that have just the opposite ability, this doctor may be one of them. His inability to the understand her speech patterns can be a detriment to the patient. You cannot change this person, but you can adjust your prospectus of him and his shortcomings, for the benefit of your patients.

You have said that it affects mainly her speech.
The doctor has a responsibility to get all information and to understand everything correctly. It seems like discrimination, but in health matters there is no room for self indulgence and self pity. Can your friend speak face to face with this doctor and bring these problems out into the open. I would suggest that she
take you along as you seem to be a supporter and a
reliable person such as you, might give her some security in this uncomfortable situation.

This doctor epitomizes everything that is wrong with the medical profession today. He should not treat patients, not have staff, and just do solitary research on the genetic make-up of Moby Dick and Bruce (the shark in "Jaws").

If anyone answers you query talking about her disability and not her they should get 10 points deducted form their total. I have a disability and those that don't tend to be cruel, inhuman, and compassionless. This doctor needs to read up on the ADA.

Absolutely, she does. Sounds to me like he IS discriminating against her. I think it's a bigger threat to the patient that something could be lost in "translation" and he should be speaking to the person who ran the test and understands the tests.

I think that is just awful. Does other Doctors, employee understand her? So, what is the deal with this one person. I think he is just being rude and a jerk. I don't blame her for being uposet, if nobody has complained or expressed concern.

O f course she has the right to feel that way. it hurts her that he does not want to talk with her. But as a doctor he does have to make sure that all instructions, meds. But he does not have to make her feel bad in the process.
