I do my taxes every year myself and get refunds in about a week or two with direct deposit! Try the link that says "Free File". e-file is available on 1/12, but you probably want the FREE file available on 1/16. You get to choose from a list of companies that let you use their tax software then they e-file it for you! My favorite is TurboTax. I used to pay $20 to buy the software but what you get online is the EXACT same thing for Federal (my state has NO state tax)... unless your return is complicated. I have my income, dependants, daycare expenses, 401k deduction.... it handles most everything and walks through it all slowly and step by step. Give it a try, there is no obligation to finish (file) the return. I think you will like it though.

File yourself. I have use turbotax for years never had a problem, I usually get my refund in a week. If your not in a rush just file a paper return and you get your refund in 2-3 weeks. Don't get a refund loan from HR block it's a scam they charge you like 40%. I feel sorry for the poor/uneducated who go to HR Block get a refund loan and they are charged like 40%.. So sad. I think a loan shark is a better deal.

You can file for free electronically through the IRS Links if you make less than $57,200 - go to irs.gov (service starts 1/16/07)!

there are lots of sites to choose from the IRS list - but they're all free. Tax Cut and Turbo Tax are the better ones.

YES

You could try filing your return yourself!!!

But I should note, filing by paper means waiting six weeks before you can get your money.

HOWEVER, there are still plenty of free file options available. Actually, go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) where they list all the partners for this program they have.

Why pay someone for something you are smart enough to do on your own!

If your income for the year is under around $40,000, you're can have your taxes done at no charge at a VITA site. See irs.gov for more info on this program.

There are other tax services out there besides H&R Block, you could do your own taxes, or you could hire a CPA.
