While looking for a good used truck, I have noticed some mileage that seems tooo low for the year of truck. Is it possible ,or easy, for the odometer to be tweaked?

It may be possible, but not likely with the fine that would be levied if they were found out. Newer vehicles with the digital odometers have to set with a computer hooked up to the ECM. Only dealers can get the software to change the odometer. If your ECM goes bad, only the dealer can legally replace it because the mileage is stored in the ECM. Parameters from the old are downloaded and then loaded onto the new.

It is quite difficult on the newer vehicles. I know quite a few people with trucks that just don't drive them much because of the gas prices. Take a look at the tires. Do they look right for the miles on the truck? What about the brake peddle? Is it worn like there are a lot of miles on it? Just pretend like you are on CSI and look for any evidence that doesn't seem right for the miles the odometer says.

Gosh...I may be wrong on this.....but it seems like if you have the transmission replaced...they are allowed to roll it back 'some'?? I think that is what they did with a car I had. The guys said it's allowed to a certain point. It depends on how many miles were on the re-built transmission. But...I could be wrong.
