That is much to long of a time for a puppy to be in a cage and not walked. I feel sorry for the animal.

If she is only 8 weeks old, there is no way she is going to be able to hold it that long. There body is too young and they cannot exert that kind of control. Even a fully mature dog might have problems with that amount of time in the crate. She should not be eliminating in her crate at all or she will get the wrong idea. A pup that young probably needs to go out of the house to eliminate almost hourly. After they play, wake up from a nap, or eat. You are also going to have to thoroughly clean your dog's crate to eliminate the smells that will encourage it to pee or poop in the crate. I would advise you to get someone to come over and let your dog out more often while you are at work. GOOD LUCK!

I believe the rule of thumb is a dog can hold it for one more hour than it is months old. So your 8 week old puppy can hold it for 2+1=3 hours. Nine is a whole lot more than that. So, yes, it's normal, and the only way to keep her from peeing in a confined space is to wait until she's much older. Eventually, she'll be able to hold it for 9 hours at a time, but all the training books I've read and the vets that I've talked to agree that holding it for more than 8 hours is a bad idea. Sorry!

9 hours is way too long for that young of a puppy. If you are at work during that time then I would get a baby gate and block off an area without carpet in the house and put the crate in there for the pup to sleep in.

Your puppy has to much space in her crate to move around therefore she is peeing in one side of the crate and hanging out in the other side. I recommend getting some type of divider for the inside of the crate(you can buy most crates that already come with one) so that the puppy wont have room to go to the bathroom without having to lie down in it. Believe me dogs don't wanna have to lie down in their urine just as much as you wouldn't want to! You should increase the amount of space your puppy is allowed to have as she gets older. But make sure it's only enough room for her to lie down comfortably and be able to stretch out. 9 hours alone in a crate is a long time for your puppy to have to wait to go to the bathroom, figuring puppies at only 8 weeks old can physically only hold their bladder for up to 6 hours. Training pads are not good for the inside of a crate. If you use training pads it is only encouraging your puppy to go to the bathroom. Instead, try putting a cozy bed or blanket in the crate to encourage the puppy to want to fall asleep.

It is not normal for them to soil (urine or solid) in their crates. She is soiling in it because she is left for too long and it may be to big. She should be able to stand up turn around and lay down nothing more. The best thing is to put a pad (a blanket or kennel pad) and something for the pup to chew on (a Kong or appropriate sized bone). Your pup is way to young to be left alone for so long, it would be best to get a friend or someone to let the little one out during the day.

Leaving her alone that many hours is not good for her- but if u can not get a teen or someone trustworthy to walk her or etc. 1 time daily while you are gone- try putting her in a smaller room (laundry room etc) with a child gate and that may help- A pup is not ready to hold it that long and usually will not poop where they sleep- and if she is there that long it may become a vet problem if she holds it in that long! Same with a human! You can always lay down papers traing pads etc. in a smaller room and you and her will be happier!

i think pee pads are a waste of money in general. but 9 hours is a very long time for your dog to wait to go potty. it's a long wait for an older dog even. but at 8 weeks there's no way she can hold it that long. can you run home at lunch? if not find a dog walker or neighbor kid you trust that once they're home can come let your dog out. stick with the crate training, but just don't expect her to hold it for that long.

That is too long for a puppy to hold it. I have a puppy and I am crate trainng also, and I take him with me in his crate and leave him in my car, so when I get breaks and lunch I take him out to pee and poo. It is really not normal for puppies to pee where they sleep, he is only doing that because he is in that crate way too long.

For a little 8 week old puppy, that's pretty good. You can try to use news paper. This is just something your puppy will learn not to do as she gets older. You really have to catch them in the act to train them at that age. Be aptient, she will learn eventually.

i think it is way to long for that young of a pup. They ahould be peaing about every five hours. you need to wait a while before putting her in for that long. Most people think that long for a puppy is cruel. they need to be played with and loved. not ignored in the corner in a crate
