I need some info about police officers for a reasearch essay i am doing.i was wondering if anyone knew some good sites to find info such as how long it takes to become one and what colleges in the area kinds of jobs you can get in this feild and such.if you can give me some websites i would really be grateful!

Some websites that might be of help are: Officer.com, Lawenforcementjobs.com and your state website.
As far as pay you will have to look into that Department. It ranges from local, county, state and special agencies. Lets say a 19 yro w/o college and no charges against him has await by MA standards of about 5 yrs if he/she is lucky. Another thing to note is his/her background with a college degree. Does she/he have an A.S./A.A., B.S./B.A. and/or Masters. Do they have an EMT cert.? It can range, if you have further questions please ask.

My boyfriend's a cop. He started as an MP in the army (4 years) then he got a criminal associates degree.
From application to academy graduation, it was about 9 mo, but the interview/testing/academy time is stressful.
After that he was on probabation for another year (more training/more stress).
You don't have to have a degree, but it's helpful for pay raises and advancement.

why not find the local city police site and find out their information and all someone and ask them if they couldn't find someone to be willing to let you interview them.. and videoize it.. that would be a serious bonus for you.. and so on.. and talk with others while you're at it.
make a huge project out of it... sure would be more interesting than a paper... just a paper on it...

It takes FOREVER!!! PSSSTTSS me off too... check out www.joinlapd.com or www.cbp.gov typically 5 months to a year depending on hiring needs, your background and department just to get into the academy...
