Yes! It only takes one misquito to bite him. And those hateful things can get into the house.
Dogs need heartworm preventative, especially in the warmer climates.

Yes. Heartworms are transmitted from mosquito bites. If your dog is bitten from a sick mosquito ( in side the house or when he goes out to potty) he can still get heart worms. If you have your dog on monthly heart worm guard, you would not have to worry.

absolutly! heartworms are carried by mosquitos. you dog can get bit while going potty outside, or just sitting next to you on the couch. a mosquito can just as easily get inside a house and bite a dog as it can bite one outside. figure that the preventative costs around $5 a month or around $600-$900 to treat. not to mention the health problems caused by the heartworms and the health problems that can occur with treatment. why risk it? no question here. get your dog tested and put on preventative.

So you never walked this dog outdoors, ever? If your dog has ever been outdoors and sniffed another dog's poop, it could have any one of several parisites. If you aren't already taking you dog in for annual vet visits (more often if it is a pup), then now is the time to start.

Presumably it has to go outside to poop at least, and it should get out of the house for greater lengths of time than that to exercise. Have you never seen a mosquito indoors?
