I am a true born natural red head, but I wanna be blonde for a awhile. I have already tried 2 different products and I'm as red headed as ever. I just did a strand test on a third product and it looks like it's going to turn out the same. Any advice ???

Just so everybody knows this isn't a permanent thing. I just want to experiment and see how different I look.

I am a natural red head as well and sorry to say... buying a home kit won't work. Red hair is sooo hard to get color. Your best bet is to go to a salon and get it professionally done. All a kit is gonna do is make your red hair lighter, and with a home kit to get it the desired color you want you would have to leave the dye on way too long and then you could cause damage to your hair. Even at the salon they leave the dye in longer than usual, but at least they know what they're doing.

When I got my hair dyed I had to sit under those rediculous dryers for 45 mintues. That was the last time I ever got my hair colored.

Anyways, thats all I can tell you dear... just go get it professionally done.

I am a natural red head also. I went through the same thing last year and decided to go with highlights. Highlights are a nice way to try being "blond" gradually. The semipermanent products or temporary haircolors will not lighten hair, only darken it. In fact, when I got tired of my highlights I used temp. hair color to cover them and blend with the rest of my hair. The only way to lift color is bleaching. You should also be aware that even going blond, you will always retain some of your red color so expect to be more of a strawberry blond. Going back to red causes a whole other problem because red color over the bleached hair has a tendency to turn pink! Just be careful and go to someone experienced!

Go to a good salon.
At least let them start you off.
Talk to them, what they are doing and if there is a product that can be used at home to get the same effect.

Seems like you'll be trying out alot of products before you achieve what can be done in one visit.

It'll just look better too if a professional does it for the first time.
You don't want to be a walking disaster do you? Or, use a product that will make your hair brittle and break.

Just save some money and see what a salon can do for you.

Good luck!

The best product to use is called V-Light from Matrix. It is professional only, but you can usually find it on e-bay. It is, hands down, the best lightening product on the market and it leaves your hair feeling as soft and smooth as it was prior to any chemical treatments. Mix it with 20 or 30 volume developer (obtained at any beauty supply store) Just apply it, 35-40 minutes later, and you are an amazing blonde :)

as far as your natural color goes, stay a red head--when you color your hair you damage it at the root--it will never be the same again, and nothing looks more trailer trashy than roots growing out. get your hair highlighted professionally, if you want a change, it is less noticable growing out and will brighten your whole look with alot less damage. take it from me, i wanted to go blonde, and i did and it took forever to grow out the fried ends. my hair grew in with no luster and shine. your hair will almost always stay reddish if you do it yourself at home with bleach or the drug store colors. besides, red hair is so individual and beautiful--don't give it up! repeat--- red hair is so beautiful! if you have the complexion to match, blonde hair will make you look washed out. so if you have already experimented, get to a salon now! put out the bucks to have it repaired and just highlighted and leave it alone after that! be glad that you have such a unique hair color! red is in! red is where it's at! red is sexy! and be happy with what makes you different from everyone else!

Why would you ever want to change your red hair. Women with red hair are more exotic, special and beautiful (even more so than blondes, but that is just my opinion). Blondes are a dime a dozen. Please don't dye your beautiful red hair, embrace it.

You need to use bleach if you want to lighten your hair to blond. Bleach can be pretty tricky to work with if you're not a pro so best head to a salon!
