I can kinda sorta be like shy around him. I have a feeling that he likes me, because he ALWAYS stares at me during band class, and wherever I am in the classroom, he follows me, and I can tell he wants to try talking to me but then, he kinda sorta freaks out and walks away. We say hi to eachother here and there, but band is the ONLY class I have with him, and now hes switching out of our classroom. I REALLY like him, but how do I know if he likes me, and how do I get to be friends with him 1st if we're too shy to start a convo with eachother?

I agree, Just be bold enough to make the first move and you don't have to real forward with him just talk about classes and celebrities or music to find out what he likes. Then maybe he will open up.
