hello! i have a question (duh). ok, first, intro- i sing, act, am the lead singer in an all-girl band (think the ramones, new-wave era u2, and riot grrrl stuff all in one), am really into the visual arts as well as opera and musical theatre, and i dress very differently. i go to a school where these things are not really the norm, and i've found in the past year and a half lots of guys will approach me and start up a conversation, but once i reply they pretty much expect me to do the rest. it's irritating because these guys are adorable, but they almost seem incapable of carrying on the conversation. i get looks in the hallway that pretty much guarantee intent interest, but some don't even approach me. what do you think- are they intimidated or do they just meet me and figure out i'm not as interesting as i come across to be? and if they're intimidated- what can i do to ease their nerves? good lord, it's painful, you'd laugh if you witnessed one of these conversations.

they may just be intimidated, and if you want to know this person get close and if they say something to you then great. just be relaxed and be fun and ask them a question that they can't say yes or no to. if they approach u try and get to know them a little better each time u talk and maybe develope into a nice relationship.

Hello =)

Well...you're obviously a little self-absorbed....

The first half of your question/description is mostly I, I, I, I, I, I, I,.....

That can be a little intimidating, yes.....

Guys like to talk about themselves....perhaps mostly about themselves, at first....... When the conversation slows....it is best if you get it going again, but not by spewing endless "I's" again...LOL Two monologues do not make a conversation, if that makes any sense to you.....

I think, perhaps, you are just "too much" for the average (or above average) guy.......

Namaste,

--Tom

Oh, it's ABSOLUTELY the same with me. I just try to be funny and laugh a hell of a lot. You've gotta be laid-back and fun, but also yourself. Incorporate your brilliance into the conversation, but don't use vocab words from science. That kind of repels them. XD

Could be a bunch of different things.
First they may not be able to have an intellectual conversation with you. Secondly, their interest may compleltely differ, so don't have a mutual topic to discuss. Third, they could just be feeling you out to see if you are interested in them.

You sound like a very smart talented person who is interesting to talk to, maybe these guys know that and feel like they have nothing to say that you would be interested in hearing. Maybe the they feel that they are not in your league that you're too smart for them.

Maybe they are just not interested in a girl who starts every sentence with I
Check yourself.
I'm not trying to be harsh, but think.

they're probablyl a bit intimidated and don't know what to expect from you or what to say.

So lead the conversation and get them talking about themselves to loosen them up a little bit.
