My dogs did this for days, he found the right place but the female was an inch too short. We got them artifically inseminated, its only $80 for collection and insemination at my vet. Its also safer for both dogs I believe.

How old is he? A male dog does not reach full sexual maturity until up to 1 year of age. Is the female in heat? If not, maybe this is causing some confusion.

How old is he? He isn't mature enough until he is close to a year old. He won't even care about a female before he is ready. Is he neutered? He may or may not care about a female if he is. And then it won't matter if he does care. Is she ready? A female is in heat for about two weeks before she is really ready. She won't give off the right scent until then. When she is ready, she will become assertive and show him the "right end".

first ask yourself why do you want to breed him? does he have titles on him? is he a champion dog? are you breeding him to better his breed? is he over 2 years of age and has been screened for heriditary health issues by a vet? if the answer is no take him to the vet to be neutered.
are you willing to risk his health to breed him. are you concerned about him getting testicular and prostate cancers? are you worried about anal tumors? do you worry he might run off after a female in heat miles away and might get hit by a car or in a deadly dog fight? if the answer is yes then take him to the vet and have him neutered.
if the answer to these questions is not no for the first ones and not yes for the second ones. then you should contact your local dog breed club, or the breeder where you got him and get the info.

So he's just humping? He's a dominant dog, this is not about sex. Are you trying to breed him? Is the female in the right stage of her heat? Was he exposed to her before she was ready?
If you want to know why your dog is humping another's head, its because he has dominance issues, if you're trying to breed him, ask the breeder who is mentoring you.

You don't. Take them to the vet and get them spayed and neutered. There are too many dogs with no homes and they wind up being put to sleep. Don't be a part of that. Please get them fixed. They will be healthier and happier if you do.

What breed do you have? Sometimes dogs need to be artificially insiminated. (AI'd)

Don't worry, trust me, he'll find it. You don't have to do anything. Just let nature take its course.
