I have two 4.5 month old Pit bull puppies, and I'm getting somewhat concerned because the city where I live requires dogs to have a license. The problem is that I'm planning on getting them neutered until they reach 7 months of age. My question is if I'm going to have any problems if I don't get them a dog license by then, or how does it really affect not having one??...who will ask me for it anyways? or how do city officials (animal control) will even know if my puppies have a license or not..??

The purpose of dog licenses is to show that the animal has been properly vaccinated against diseases that could harm humans, like rabies for instance. In order to get a license you must show proof of its vaccination. Without such proof your pet can be destroyed legally and without any recourse available to you. Further, as its owner you can be sued for public endangerment for neglecting to have it licensed. It is only for your own good, the pet's own good and the good of everyone else too. What is the big deal? It doesn't cost much. Plus, if they get lost or run away, the tag is numbered and can be traced back to you, its owner. That alone ought to be incentive if you love your pet.

Dogs have to be licensed at or before 6 months old. Its when they get their adult teeth. In some counties/cities they will give you a big ticket or impound your dogs for not being licensed. Animal control will sometimes check to see if dogs are licensed. You can get the pups neutered at 6 months as well.

city and animal control don't care if you spay/neuter or what you do at what age. if you wait you risk the cost of a very hefy fine and or jail time and the lost of the dogs. is that worth waiting? A friend is going through just this because the city has no idea their own laws and each offiecial has different ideas and now has Hundreds of dollars of fines

The law requires that all dog owners license and vaccinate their pet against rabies. This helps control the spread of rabies and keep a complete record of your city's pet population to ensure the safety of the animals as well as the residents of your city.

Pits have a bad rap anyway! It is best to just get them licensed because if someone finds out they arnt then they will take them away in a heartbeat and destry them. Dont give them ammo to fight you, difuse it BEFORE it happens. All you neighbor has to do is call and mention Pitt and they will be all over you finding violations left and right. Most states require you to carry additional insurance and get very picky about things like what color of collar it is mandatory for them to wear (in ohio anyway)

yes you do have to have dog license and they will find out. it only takes one phone call from a nosy person over some thing or the other. but l think you have to get them at six months old and also the vet could report it. it is in some places the vet will ask to see the tags. and if you get caught without them it will be a fine.

they don't until you have problems then there's a hefty fine. and why do you want to wait until 7 months? most cities i cannot speak for yours, but in general the difference is that an unaltered dog will cost more to liscense. as long as pits are legal in your area, you might just have to pay more to liscense them. as a pit owner you have an added obligation to prove you are a worthy owner, and this includes proper vet care, training, and a city liscense where it's a law to have one for any dog. and having them neutered shows you are responsible. i'm happy you're having them neutered, and keep up the good work with taking them to training class, and socializing them. good luck.

Licenses are necessary for identification. If one of your puppies got out and ran away, a license tag on a collar will help identify him/her so you could get it back.
