It's about dime-sized and she may poop it out okay. I don't want to take her to the Emergency Vet right now because she seems fine. Should I wait a couple of days to see if she passes it?

Here is home remedy, that I can not vouch for> Remedy in Case of Swallowing Pins.

A person in Pendleton, who was informed of a neighbour having swallowed a pin, resorted to the following expedient with success:--He administered four grains of tartar emetic in warm water, and afterwards, prevailed upon the patient to drink the white from six eggs, which coagulated upon the stomach before the tartar operated, enveloped the pin, and brought it up.

There is a well-authenticated instance upon record of a person who swallowed twenty-four pins being made to throw up the whole by the above method. The same may be used with success for fish and other sharp bones.

Dr.Mike, DVM, say to get dairy cream and pure cotton balls. Roll the cotton balls in smaller balls, and dip in the cream, and feed to the dog..A Lot of them..He says this coats sharp edges, such as broken glass and splintered bones, and they can pass safely..

here is his recipe> Dogs under 10 lbs. should eat 2 balls which you have first torn into smaller
pieces. Dogs 10-50 lbs. should eat 3-5 balls and larger dogs should eat 5-7. You may feed larger dogs an entire cotton ball at once. Dogs seem to really like these strange "treats" and eat them readily.

As the cotton works its way through the digestive tract it will find all the glass pieces and wrap itself around them. Even the teeniest shards of glass will be caught and wrapped in the cotton fibers and the cotton will protect the intestines from damage by the glass.

Your dog's stools will be really weird for a few days and you will have to be careful to check for fresh blood or a tarry appearance to the stool. If either of the latter symptoms appear you should rush your dog to the vet for a checkup but, in most cases, the dogs will be just fine.

You need to take her to a vet ASAP. Even if the pin was closed there is still a sharp little point on the back and this can perforate her stomach or bowel. Let a vet and an x-ray decide if she'll pass it or not. Good luck!

The answer is a huge NO.

It's not a matter of if she will pass it... its a matter of how many holes it will cause on the way out.

You need to have an X-Ray now. The damage on her organs could be deadly.

I work in a vet's office and I have seen what can happen.

Take her now..

get her to the vet. if it punctures her intestines she will be slowly poisoned from the inside by her own feces. Get some mineral oil. i have a 30 pound dog and i gave him about 2 teaspoons when he ate a ton of chicken bones. It will lubricate his insides and help him pass it easier. give the vet a call anyway and se what they reccomend. If she shows any signs of pain or discomfort call the emergency vet right away

No, you shouldn't wait, because it's a pin, and if it punctures any of her internal organs, there's going to be major problems. If your vet's office is closed, take her to the Animal ER. They are open for 24 hours. Please take her in right away, just to be on the safe side.

Most likely, this too shall pass. However, you should probably call your vet and ask their advice. If something does go wrong, it could go very wrong, and very quickly. The vet might just prescribe a laxative, to help matters along.

you mean a safety pin? if its a safety pin I woundn't be worried...she should pass it out soon. If she doesn't by tomorrow, then you should take her to the vet because dog's intestines aren't so long, stuff should be passed out soon....(since ER is so expensive so just make an appointment with the vet for tomorrow)... good luck

That's probably a good idea but watch her closely and if she starts having problems, like coughing or throwing up, the pin may have cut the stomach lining or poked a hole somewhere in there.

I wouldn't worry if the pic was closed and dime size, but I would go and get an xray tomorrow to make sure all is fine.
