I have the car rego number of a suspicious car always around my home.Can I get the car owners name without involving any authorities.Like off the internet for eg, or is it protected by privacy laws?

Most states will NOT supply registration information to persons other than the police or government agencies.

The legal thing to do is to take that Regist. # to your local police station. They will in turn run an investigation from the DMV. They will then have the address of the person and can check to see if or not they have any criminal record, from misdemeanors to felonies. When you give it to them, be sure to find out when you can have a copy of the report.

It's protected in most states. Just report suspicious activity to the police. That's their job to deal with that.
