The most expensive wine I've ever had was Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache (I can't recall the vintage, but it was either 2000 or 2001) at a blind tasting of new world vs. old world Pinot Noir. As expected, it was really closed due to its youth and the other, more approachable, wines showed much better.
A standard bottle of DRC La Tache retails here for around $500 Canadian.

Ch. Petrus 1982 ... bought it for $700 and sold it for $1300 2 years later (now worth about $2k). At that price, the only way I'd drink it is if I won Lotto ! But if you have a limited budget and really want to drink it, try a Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand or a Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet/Shiraz from Australia. Both are fantastic and "reasonably priced" (under $50). Cheers !

This question is on here every day.
Tonight I had a little taste of "Sassicaia". It was around $250. (restaurant price) De-freaking-liscious
I've been fortunate to have been able to try all of the First Growths, too.
Wine is absolutely a "get what you pay for" experience.
