Absinthe is a strong-herbal liquor distilled with wormwood and anise. It can contains other aromatic herbs like star anise, anise seed, fennel, licorice, hyssop, veronica, lemon balm, angelica root, dittany, coriander, juniper, and nutmeg. Taste like anise or licorice.

It's not illegal to own in the US, just illegal to purchase or sell.

Absinthe is not just alcohol... it is considered a very potent drink containing 80% alcohol and other mind altering substances such as Thujone that act as hallucinogens. There are very specific ways to make the drink, sweeten it, its not something for bigginer/intermediate drinker.. only for ones with extremely high alcohol tolerance..

also in united states and some european countires its illeagal because of its psychoactive effects and dangerous alcohol concentration. I have read somewhere before that it's addictive as well so not really worth ever trying.

absinthe is just booze. it is a distilled beverage that replaced wine during the late middle ages due to a grape failure. it was illegal in europe until the advent of the european union. it is still illegal in the u.s. it is green due to the herbs (flax, wormwort etc.) that is steeped in it after distillation. it has had a bad reputation due to the adding of copper sulfate to get the green colour (it's poisonous). the increased food laws has ended that practice. it is gaining popularity in europe of late. I've never seen good absinthe with 'weeds' in it. the steeping herbs should be filtered out of it. i know of no distiller in asia, but there are a few in france and britain.

It is made from wormwood and very high in alcohol content as 80% or 160 proof. Also it is very common to be illegal in many countries i.e. USA, etc etc. because it is extremely addictive as well.
