I'm a dermatologist. The most common cause of itchy or sensitive nipples is from the rubbing of clothing against the protuberant skin. In my practice I frequently see runners or other athletes because of the constant abrasion of the clothing against the nipples. However one must keep in mind that in very rare cases breast cancer may manifest as one sided itchy nipple.

If there is no rash present, it's probably dry skin from the heat being turned on. Think back. Did it start itching about the time you turned on the heat? Just moisturize. Apply a thick cream or lotion after you bathe. You might also try switching to a cocoa butter soap during the winter or something like Dove.
