I have an awesome lab from TX and I live in FL, I would like to cross his TX bloodlines with a FL or other state currently living in FL AKC Lab - he told me he'd prefer a yellow but would settle for a choc or black - if you couldn't guess he's black.

He is from a hunting line but is the smartest dog I have ever had and he has a beautiful shiny coat and an awesome muscular athletic build. Considering he is from Tx and is AKC - I think he's worthy of breeding and would think any breeder that sees him would agree.

I am going to ask the vet about it too.

Try putting an ad in your local newspaper.

But, first you should have his hip and elbows OFA certified with an excellent or good rating before you breed him (anything less than excellent or good than he shouldn't be used for a stud). Also, you should speak with your vet and have them do any health testing that they feel that he needs (I am not up to date on all of the needed health testing in Labs, but I do know that they need to have their hips and elbows done).

Also, just because he is AKC doesn't mean that he should be bred. He may be breeding quality, but he may not be. I am not trying to be mean (and I am sorry if I sound like it), I just wanted you to know.

Why do you want to breed? There is a severe pet overpopulation problem in this country. Nearly 10,000 animals are put to sleep every day in this country because of this. There are 3 purebred labs at the shelter I work at, not the mention the countless lab mixes, all waiting for homes. And all are "awesome" dogs like yours. Labs in general are great dogs, but one of the most populated breeds living in shelters across this country. I would urge you to go to any shelter or rescue and see how many labs are sitting waiting for a home before you consider breeding. Many of these labs will be very similar to yours in temperament, they are just there due to bad luck or bad ownership.

Instead of breeding why not take your dog to AKC Canine Good Citizen classes and let him become a Certified Therapy Dog? If he's as smart and great as you say, he should fly through the classes and you can then go on trips to childrens' hospitals and nursing homes and bring them some cheer. Labs excel and thrive with this type of work and you'd be doing a great community service in the process.

since when is there TX or FL blood lines? they are either from American Bred or English Bred Lines. English is the original bred Labrador. American bred was bred more for slim lines.

Second there is more to breeding than jsut sticking two labs together because you think they are different lines. Each breeder has their own "name" which is sometimes considered their own line but when it comes right down to it there is only two lines, three if you include mutts.

Do u show your dog? If so it should be simple to find someone to breed with. Most reputable breeders won't breed thier dogs to any old lab however, they usually want one with champion show lines or in labs good hunting lines. With soooo many dogs in rescue, spca, etc not to many breeders want to breed unless to imporve bloodlines

NOT TRUE
There are Field lines in England that look exactlly like our Field lines. Just as there are Show lines in the US that look exactlly like their Show lines.
Now being as mine is Canadian and not US bred or English bred, of course she is better ;)

Put an add on the internet in that state. People will call you real quick if he has good bloodlines.
