Yes, I am a dermatologist. Lotion moisturizes the skin by actually impeding evaporation of water from the skin. When you apply a lotion, cream, or ointment, the oils or lipids in the product slows or impedes evaporation of water from the skin therefore allowing more moisture to remain in the skin surface area. This makes the skin more supple and pliable and also helps reduce itching from cracks in the skin from dryness or low humidity.

It is best to put on lotion right after you shower! Or even while you are in the shower. Lotion is barrier against the elements(cold, dry air, sun). Your body doesn't absorb the lotion. Your body does absorb water! So if your skin is wet, and you put on a moisturizer, your skin will stay moist longer than if you don't use a moisturizer.

Lotion really makes you feel like your skin is moisturized but it really does nothing. It just makes you feel good for a small while.

I hear you. While I was perusing a $35. tiny jar of Oil of Olay stuff, at Sam's Club, my eye drifted and came upon a large jug of something called Genes, Swiss Collagen Complex, for..........Under $6. I thought this worth a shot and I have found it to be a class A moisuturizer. It is cheap enough to use all over. I (Norton; not a guy) use this after I shave my legs. I use it on my hands feet face and elbows. Im an Irish redhead prone to allergy. Not any problems.

I have sensitive skin too so I use NUTRADERM. I've been using it for a few years now, it doesn't have that greasy feeling and doesn't cause breakouts. I love it, you would fall in love too. I got it at my local drug store but im sure walmart would carry it.
