Yeah they are so heartless! They should let the dogs in the house. That is so like totally cruel to leave them to freeze to death!! I think they should be reported too!!

I don't know if they're heartless. It depends on what kind of dog it is, how thick it's coat is, whether it's used to being out in the cold, etc. My Newfoundland can handle very low temperatures just fine, that's what his double coat is for. In fact, it's about 15 degrees outside right now, and he is hanging out on our back patio. He likes the cold because that's what he was bred for. He would rather be outside than inside.

As for the dog house, unless it's heated (and some are) it will only serve to keep the dog dry, but not much warmer than being without a dog house. Keeping a dog dry is important because when a dog gets wet, it's more likely to get hypothermia.

If you are genuinely concerned about the welfare of your neighbor's dogs, call the cops.

oh since they have dog houses (I answered your other ? but this makes things different) is a good thing but if its going to be THAT cold they should have something over the openings to prevent the cold from getting in. If they don't (if you can tell for sure) then I would concerned because even though they do work to a certain extent, they can't keep out the cold if the openings aren't covered to keep the cold completely out. But since they ARE cops and they usually seem like responsible pet owners (if this is the only thing that you are concerned about) then I would not worry much about it. Maybe you should try talking to them (if you haven't already) and expressed your concerns as a dog lover. I'm sure that they will understand and be grateful that you are concerned for their dogs.

Doghouses do work if they have a flap on the front because it prevents most of the cold weather from getting in plus them exhaling hot air warms the inside. I know, my dogs have doghouses with flaps and they are always steamed up when they lay inside. They don't go out all the time but they love their doghouses and always go in to lay down, both Labs. If the dogs aren't used to that cold of weather, it may be harder on them though. I would go ask them if they realize how cold the night is supposed to be and express your concern for the dogs. Maybe they don't realize. *crossing fingers*

Dogs can stand more cold weather than you think as long as they are not the little ones or the puppies.

If the dogs have a dog house, they'll be fine. They really DO work, and legally speaking, that's probably all they're required to have. I've slept in weather like that (and worse!) in a tent, and I was perfectly ok, so in a sense, I speak from experience!

well there are lots of different kinds of dog houses. some arent so good and some are a lot better than others. and it depends on what kind of dogs they have. some dogs have poor fur coats and some are better than others. you always have to think of the PROS and cons. but their heater may be broken so it might be warmer outside than inside. ever think of that. HA HA HA

I think that if the dogs have a dog house, then i wouldn't bother your neighbors. In most states, as long as they have a shelter then they're fine. But I have to agree with you; they're heartless.

Yes dog houses really do work!

If it were me, I would walk next door and ask them to please consider bringing their dogs in for the night since the temp is supposed to drop so much lower than normal.

I don't care if they are cops or not.. If they refuse call animal control and ask them to check on the dogs..

It really depends on the type of dog. Some dogs prefer, and do better, by sleeping outdoors. I think if their fur is quit thick, their skin tends to dry out too much.
