My cat won't drink anything but Cows milk! I cant get her to drink water! I've tried mixing (milk and water) and we can't buy a water fountain. She doesn't even drink from the tiolet or the faucet. Or even the hose! I need her to drink water. How do I make her drink water?

Just give the cat water. It will drink when it gets thirsty.

The problem isn't getting the cat to drink water. What is needed is for you to understand that the cat doesn't call the shots.

If a cat is drinking nothing but milk, it's consuming a lot of calories in the form of fats and protein. Cats need both of these, but milk does not provide the minerals and vitamins an adult cat needs. Drinking some milk is fine, but a drinking nothing but milk each day means that for a cat to get the nutrients it needs it will have to consume enough cat food in addition to the milk that it will get fat. If it doesn't get fat, then it is not eating enough cat food to receive the vitamins and minerals that it needs.

No healthy animal will die of thirst in the presence of readily available water. They might walk around thirsty for a few hours or even a day or two but they will drink the water eventually.

Did you get your cat from an animal shelter? If so she could have had an owner who sprayed her with water everytime she did something wrong. If they did this to her long enough she isnt going to want anything to do with water. That could be a reason why she doesnt want to drink water. I had a friend who adopted a dog from a shelter and she would only drink milk, not water. Because her previous owner sprayed her with water everytime she did something wrong. And whenever she sees them get a spray bottle out she runs and hides. It's really sad. But i'm sure this isnt why your cat wont eat water.

If you didnt get her from an animal shelter then that isnt the case. You should just leave her a water bowl out and not milk. if she gets thirsty enough she will drink it. If you feel bad for her than you might give her some milk like once every few weeks for a treat. Other than that dont give her anymore milk. Animals dont starve themselves. So you dont have to worry about her being dehydrated to death. Good luck and good bye.

Check the litter box to see if she has normal stools. Cats have been drinking milk since time began. If her stools are normal, the milk isn't hurting her. Also, if you are feeding her moist cat food, her fluid needs may be being completely met between the two. Leave a bowl of fresh water down for her at all times. Be sure to freshen it at least once if not twice a day. If you feel the milk isn't good for her, simply stop making it available to her. Be careful to watch your own glass of milk, too. If you only make water available, she may start drinking it eventually. She won't die of thirst and her body will cause her to thirst when it needs fluids. Also, cats are notorious about refusing to do something if you are being obvious about trying to get them to do it. She might not be letting you see her drink water, so she could be drinking water already without your knowing about it.

What happened when you mixed the milk with water? Did she drink that? Use a Brita water filter, she might like the water better that way - I sure like my coffee better with filtered water.

If she doesn't drink water I think you should get a good quality canned food in her diet. Not Whiskas, Friskies or Fancy Feast. Natural Balance has good quality food with quite a variety in "flavors". My cats like it a lot. My three male cats only eat canned and a raw meat diet. They never drink water from the bowl as they get what they need from their food.

The answer seems so simple to me. Stop giving her milk!! She won't dehydrate herself. If water is all there is and she's thirsty enough, she will drink it.

Quit giving her milk. She's holding out because she knows you'll break down and give her some. Just stick to water, she'll adjust and be fine!

Don't give her any more milk and, if she gets thirsty she will eventually drink the water.
