Kettles are already extremely energy efficient - I would guess almost ALL the power goes into heating the water & very little is lost as heat to the surrounding environment.

The major efficiency loss is when too much water is boiled and when the water is boiled and left to cool down before use (so requiring reheating).

So I would focus on improving the overall efficiency of delivering boiling water - for example maybe you could design some sort of 'boil on pour' system ??

I don't know how you would go about making one, but you can make your current kettle much more efficient simply by cleaning all the limescale from it and only boiling the kettle with the amount of water you need.

Both these measures means the water heats up quicker, therefore using less energy.

By designing one with the Dewar's Flask principle. This will be like putting the element in a Thermos Flask thus reducing heat loss by conduction,convection and radiation.
