You got quite a few wrong answers here. ADULTS need 7-8 hours..kids need more. A 10 year old should get about 10 hours of sleep a night.

Elementary school aged children should get 10 - 11 hours of sleep a night.

My son is much more alert if he gets his 10 hours of sleep. When he gets 8 or less he is usually in need of a nap or EXTREMELY grumpy during the day.

Scientificly the 10 year old brain needs roughly 8-10 of REM sleep....realisticly however, the 10 year old could get by with 7-8 hours.
