What you can do is see a neurosurgeon. They not only give LESI (lumbar epidural steroid injections) which may or may not work. There are other treatments too. There is a minor surgery that would decompress the nerve and let you lead a pain free life. But what he may do at first is prescribe some intersegmental traction. This is a device that you lay on and it "rolls" up and down your spine. Very good for pain relief in conjunction with the right meds. Depending how long you have had this condition, would determine which pain meds to put you on. L4, L5 and S1 are very common areas of the spine for ruptured or degenerative disc disease. Until then, try laying on your side in almost a fetal position to sleep in. That may work for a while. My suggestion is see that doc ASAP. Good Luck!

It sounds like a herniated disk. The only way to fix that is an operation.

Pretty much nothing.
My grandmother got epidurals every week because painkillers didn't help.
