You'll often hear propaganda of depressive symptoms hitting women; some anti-abortion groups claim they are "protecting women's rights." However, there are more who have gotten abortions and feel fine spiritually and emotionally than those who have been harmed.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
This is in Psalm 139. So since God created the baby and ordained each of his/her days there are many spiritual issues here as well as emotional. I counsel at a pregnancy help clinic and I personally see the women who come back that have had abortions. Some of them feel guilt that they do not think could ever be forgiven. Which of course is wrong because it can be. Shame is another risk after abortion. Even if the person who has had an abortion does not think there are any thing spiritually wrong with it will find out later, that it was murder- and God said, "do not murder". Every sin can be forgiven through Christ. If you would like to email me personally please do. Would love to "talk" more.

Hello =)
As a Mahayana Buddhist, this is a very difficult question you have posited, even though you have only used four words to pose it.....
Of course, we believe that life begins at conception, when the consciousness has bound to the fertilized egg. Thus, abortion is the killing of a human, which is a very bad thing.
We believe in Karma, which is the force that takes into account all of one's thoughts, words, and deeds in every life, and assigns responsibility for those thoughts, words, and deeds to the consciousness, through each and every rebirth.
Every person involved in an abortion... The mother, the father (whether he is a consenting party or not), the doctors and medical staff, and whoever else may be a party....each of them accumulate negative Karma for the action, of course. Additionally, the society in which the stigma of pregnancy and motherhood has become something negative also accumulates negative Karma.....as that society is just as responsible as the mother is, in the end....
But, none of this takes into account the possible benefits....
If the pregnancy would have caused much hardship and suffering in the family....or worse, if the mother was very young, and the child may have been improperly cared for, or abused, or even worse......and the abortion prevented all of that....then the burden of negative Karma is reduced.....or perhaps, in most extreme cases, even eliminated....
Of course, none of us know what the future holds for an unborn child, now do we...??
Thus it is improper to judge the actions of others.
So, it is the Mahayana Buddhist position that we must maintain freedom of choice, but encourage women not to have an abortion whenever possible.......
Namaste,
--Tom

It depends on the spirituality.
From a Christian aspect it's horrible.
From a Pagan aspect, there are divergent views.
If one believes in reincarnation, one recognizes that we are all here many times. Abortion is merely a short walk.
The largest problem is with guilt, and this is mostly evident in Christians. If we are only here once, then that life seems to have more subjective value, and the ending of such is a great offense. Still, if one looks at it from an eternal perspective, it is only the end of a very short punctuation in that continuity. If the end result of a life is eternity with God, then why is getting there faster so horrible?
I don't think that abortion should be done for convenience, but there is no reason to look at it as an evil from all perspectives. It's up to individuals and individual religions to make that decision for themselves. The real danger is in imposing the viewpoints of individuals on all people universally.

I have repeatedly seen women torn up by guilt and shame, unable to forgive themselves. Often looking at children, wondering how old their child would be if only they hadn't.....
There is sometimes an inability to finish anything, like school, training, etc, and there is often financial problems for those that have paid for the abortion. There are often side effects that people don't even associate with the abortion, such as promiscuity, increased drug use, depression, etc. You can get more info at http://www.abortionfacts.com/PAS/PAS.asp
Jesus waits with open arms to forgive and heal all those that have had abortions, those that have performed abortions, and those that have paid for abortions. Please, don't let the guilt eat you up, seek help, Jesus is willing and able to heal and restore.

I had a friend who use to use abortion like it was birth control. She was always sad or drunk, she often cried because she wondered if she did the wrong thing. For years and years she did this. On her last abortion, she asked me to pick her up from the clinic. She knew I did not approve, but I picked her up. I was 7 months pregnant. The women in the clinic looked so offended because I walked in that clinic. I glowed with happiness in my belly! I hope I made just one think about what they were doing. Don't think it was because I was in a situation that I could afford to be in this situation. That couldn't be further from the truth! I was 1 year out of a divorce and already had one child from that marriage of which I got no help with. I had prior to my new pregnancy been running a muck doing drugs, drinking, hanging with a bad crowd, yep, got pregnant. That pregnancy saved my life though! Not only did God give me a precious gift, but he saved me through it because he knew I would stop what I was doing and get back to reality. I have financially struggled for years, but have been blessed with a husband who choose to be a father to my child and we now have a great life. My UNBORN CHILD had a PURPOSE then and still has a future purpose! God entrusts you with the gift of children with intentions and purpose and love and blessings! My friend, well, she was miserable and about a year later, yep, she got pregnant again. This time, she kept it and has a wonderful son!

Abortion is murder and will have the same eternal consequences as the murder of a born person, unless one repents and comes to Christ. For more on this, see:

I highly recommend the above studies for anyone who has been involved in aborting a child. You will be paired with an email counselor, most likely someone who has aborted a baby herself. The studies are completely Scripture-based. They will help.

Abortion kills an innocent human being- if someone has a conscience or feelings they would feel guilt, remorse regret and shame. the child would be ushered into the presence of heaven- I know a child that died and came back and she got to see babies that were taken out of their mommies before they were ready and Jesus was taking care of them- and they were made all better- this girl was only 4 years of age.D

Ask God. Isn't he the most prolific abortionist of all time? When a child dies needlessly in an accident, or from some fatal disease, the mourners are left wondering why but often console themselves by saying it was God's will. When abortion occurs, isn't that God's will?

you all know that abortion is killing.and so it is a sin because it is the 'bible that thou shall not kill' and the soul that sinnet shall die.
Spiritually when someone comitts abortion the person might not have a child again or the child that died during the process might reincarnate to revenge.
