Why do Canadians say Pop and Americans say Soda?

I am a Canadian and have always been wondering that. Do any Americans or Canadians say vis versa

I AM CANADIAN! (Love saying that).
I've yet to hear a Canadian call it soda, unless they say soda pop.
It's just one of those peculiarities between us like Peanut butter and Jam or Peanut butter and Jelly. That last ones not popular north of the 49th either.
Of course my favourite is 'ZED' versus 'ZEE'. My kids know that saying the alphabet and ending in ZEE makes me cringe. Kids can be cruel!

Not all Americans say soda. It's also called pop and soft drink. It depends on the area and the income class. In some areas of the South sodas or pops are called cokes, no matter what the flavor.

So all the people I've heard for years saying pop in the US are actually Canadians ? ? WOW !

I say fizzy.
it's all drink. Soda Pop, I have heard, in movies.
we say Fizzy drink in Australia and New Zealand.
maybe it's called soda as it has soda in it that makes the bubbles and Pop as it makes gentle popping sound.
Fizzy, it's like both of those.

I live in Kansas and everyone here calls it pop. I haven't heard it called soda since I lived in Washington.
