Ok so..my parents are going through a divorce for a few years now, and today my mom got a phone call....it was a muffled voice, and he(it?) said he would kill me and her if she keeps trying to get her money thats owed to us, don't want to give out too much info..she did call the cops, not too much they can do about it, but......any out there have some safety tips for me.....whether this is serious or not I don't know, it could be a scare off.
This is in virginia btw (for my friends)

never leave you house alone! and always try to have someone with you, if your at the library have a friend go too, if your home alone see if a fried will come over and visit you. you can also see if they have a system available where is if you get a call like that all you do is press *55 and it automatically go to an officer as harassment and they look into it immediately then call you to see what the issue was. in your case they already know and they have an idea of what phone it came from. it will more then likely come from the same phone again and they can watch it for a while.
im sure you will be fine, its just someone trying to scare your mom:( if i were their i would protect ya:) always use caution just in case.

Ask your local police about some safety tips. Keep your doors locked. Trim the bushes, if any, by the windows so that a person could be seen if they were trying to enter the house through a window. Notify your neighbors to keep an eye on the place for ANY suspicious activity and tell them you will do the same for them. Be alert, but not afraid. If you have a car or cars keep them inside the garage (if you have one) and keep it LOCKED. Install a security system if you can afford it. Get a large or small dog - they make great alarm systems because they are very territorial. You may want to consider getting a firearm - if you do be sure to take a safety class for its use so you don't accidentally hurt somebody you are trying to protect. Let the person know, if they call again, that they will be met with deadly force if necessary if they try to harm you or your family. There's more, but this is a good start. Be sure to ask the police about security though - they know best.

Don't go anywhere alone for a while, and you should confront your father about it. If you think he's the culprit, tell him how that makes you feel. If not, then maybe he could do something to help. Either way, you need to make sure not only the police know, but the lawyers. This behavior is unacceptable and if the phone company can give you the info as to what number it came from.... and if you have a date and time, it would help, you can persue it in court.
also, if you can get a recording, take it with you when you go to the police. You can file a report if nothing else. it establishes that it was done, and gives you an official record, which is good in any state.

Do you have caller id? I know in my state you can also call the phone company and have them put a trace on your phone for someone threatening your life. I'm not sure what the laws are there. Always try to go somewhere with a good of people and don't go anywhere by yourself if at all possible. I would get some pepper spray if you ever have to go somewhere by yourself. Good Luck.

Record his threats, get a restraining order. She will change her number however he would come via in person then. Better to proceed catching him within the act. Ordinarily get her a cellphone as well, let her go away that phone only for him. My ex did 2 yrs on probation for twenty-four cell messages left - and that used to be just for violating the No Direct Contact clause of the order, no direct threats recorded. After I filed, the cop on the case gave me his phone quantity to speed-dial if I ever felt threatened. Call 911, then name him straight. Cool!

Record anymore of these phone calls. Since you've already spoken to the police about it, next time you'll have it on tape. If something does happen, someone shows up to your house, you pull out a gun and shoot. You have your proof that your life has been threatnend and you were scared. Give'em the tape and say thank you for the protection!

All countries and state have different laws.
My advise is to tape the conversation ( caller ID ) and make a Police report. Also report to your telephone company.
Threatening calls are difficult to prosecute but you can take civil action. Consult your lawyer,
Good Luck

Call your phone company and ask if thay can trace the call. If they can't make sure you lock everything up when you leav the house and when you go to bed. And if they call agian tell them your phone is bugged and you will call the cops. Do you have callerID?

There is a surprise!
Cops only like to help you after a crime is committed.
Heaven fobbed they try and prevent a crime..
Try changing your number, using caller ID, and do not allow blocked numbers to call you!!
