ok.. ecoli is found naturally in your intestines and you don't really want to get rid of that. if you do its very likely some nastier bug will come in and set up house in its stead. however if your normal ecoli finds its way to somewhere other than your intestines, it can cause infections, for example it is one of the leading causes of urinary tract infection in women.
you are probably thinkning of ecoli 0157 h7. this strain of ecoli is not normally found in your body, if they find it you're sick. it is a purely pathogenic strain. in healthy individuals generally the illness is self-limiting. it feels like a bad case of the flu and they get over it. in children and the elderly however it can get a little more serious, they often have be hospitalized. part of the nastiness of this bug is the shigga-like toxin (not cholera) which in some caeses actually helps penetrate the intestinal wall= blood in stool (lots of blood).
in severe cases this can lead to a syndrome called hus (hemolytic uremic sydrome) in which the toxin actually causes the kidneys to shut down...
the 0157 h7 strain is naturally found in cattle digestive tracts, whivh is why you can get it from tainted hamburger or greens that have been fertilized with cow manure (or manure runoff). always cook your hamburgers so they are no longer pink in the center and thoroughly wash veggies before eating.

E.coli can infect the body as an endogenous pathogen [ex. a urinary tract infection] or
It can infect the GI tract as Vertotoxogenic Ecoli [0157;h7] or enterohemorrahagic E.coli. This is the one you always hear about. The infection is usually self limiting which is why it normally only kills the old and very young. Antibiotics are usually given with any GI infection [except cholera]. The most important treatment with an 0157:h7 infection is a blood transfusion in patients that are severely ill, this removes stress from the liver and prevents its failure.
Enterotoxogenic E.coli is another pathogen. this guy got his virulence from Cholera, so it produces cholera toxin. The illness is identical, it is also self limiting [a few days of insane diarrhea], followed by recovery.
Of these three different E.coli infections the only one that is chronic is the first, the endogenous E.coli infection, and this can be cured with simple antibiotics.

Yes. An e coli infection is cured with antibiotics. I have had an e coli infection. You would need to seek medical care immediately. But yes... it is treatable.

E Coli is not a condition, it is a bacteria, EColi is present normally in the human flora (normal bacteria) and helps with processes, it can cause infections such as food poisoning and urinal tract infections, but these are usually readily treated effectively with antibiotics, in rare cases infection of the kidney can leade to permenant kidney failure

I assume you're talking about o157H7. It is normally a self-limited illness, and treatment with antibiotics has been associated with an increased risk of hemolytic-uremic syndrome. Another example of when the right thing is, "Don't just do something, stand there."
