I had hives 3 times at the end of last year, and it is the worst thing I have ever experienced. The first time I had hives I had no clue what was wrong with me. It was nighttime, I was hanging out with my boyfriend, we were outside and I started to itch in one spot on my butt then I started scratching it, just like any other itch. But then I started to feel like my body was overheating and on fire and I was dizzy this whole process happened so fast. And before I knew it I was itching everywhere which led to a whole bunch of scratching, and the hives were raised on my skin. It was everywhere on my body, hands, feet, face, head, back, I mean everywhere. It was so bad and then I felt this tightness in my throat which is a sign that something bad is happening, but me being stupid just drunk some water, took the coldest shower ever, and went to sleep, then I felt way better afterwards, what I should of done was go to the e.r ASAP. But then I got the hives again almost exactly one month later when I was at work, that is when I went to the e.r, trying to work with hives is not the easiest thing to do. And the doctor said that if someone ever feels a tightness in their throat they need to go to the e.r. immediately. But he said that most of the time hives are caused by allergies, which I thought I had but didn't, or stress, and in my case it was probably due to a chemical imbalance in my body, that's what the doctor said at my follow-up appointment, so I don't really know. The doctor said that there are hardly any cases of hives that get resolved, because there are so many things that can cause hives. But you are probably allergic to something, or stressed out about something. Some peoples hives last longer than others. But if you do have an allergy to something it will take a while for the doctors to figure out what is going on. Good Luck and I hope you find out what is causing your hives.

hives are an allergic reaction and you will continue to suffer until you eliminate the cause. If you are breaking out this frequently I would be looking at your diet and also your soaps shampoos and clothing detergents. This is not to be taken lightly as you are stressing your body out and your skin as well, much less the misery.
When did they start? How long have you had them? Change soaps/detergents/fabric softeners recently? Happens after eating something? Unless you want to be subjected to painful allergy tests (read millions of needles) start keeping a journal of the occurences. Untreated they could lead to anapholytic shock as your body gets older it cannot tolerate allergies as well and you could be hospitalized or in a near death situation.
