Best way is in the refrigerator
2nd best is under cool running water
3rd: use defrost mode on the microwave turning when it tells you to and thaw only about 60 %. The rest you can finish when making your dish

Health Department codes in most areas say that there are four ways to safely defrost food. In the refrigerator, under cool (65F)running water, in the microwave on a defrost cycle, or as part of the cooking process. Keep in mind that food shouldn't be out between 40 and 140 F for more than four hours.

First I would put it on a plate and thaw it in the fridge over night, 2nd I would run cool water over it while it sits in a pot or glass bowl, 3rdly I have slow baked a roast many times frozen, came out nice and tender, you can even brown it off while it is frozen.
Good Luck to you
PS You can use a microwave, but I dont like to.

check your micro wave... see if it has an auto defrost button.... if so use it on the meat setting .. if not try running cool water over it
but can be thawed and cooked slow and low( 300degrees F) for about 3 hours or more with the roast half in water and covered... use tin foil if you have no lid... uncover if you want to "crisp" it up a little about 15 minutes before the end of the three hours... good luck!!!!!
