what is the new law that was passed requiring anyone going to Mexico must have a passport? Does this include the legal residence of the US? My husband (legal resident) and his brother (US citizen) are taking their Dad (legal resident) back to his home in Chich. Who needs the passport (s)? Someone said only the people that fly need passports. Help please.

It starts for Air travel January 23, 2007 and for both Land and Sea and Air January 1, 2008. The Law is that everyone who is US citizen or permanent resident must carry a passport not just birth certificate or drivers license to travel to Carribean and Bermuda, Canada, Mexico

Only citizens need passport, he can simply show his Green Card (perm. Res. Card) at the border and his Mexican passport, but thats not required.

It is only in place (as of the 23rd I think) for those who fly. Land and sea travelors kick in later.
