All diets really work the same way - cutting calories. The bottom line is that if you cut calories and increase your activity, you will lose weight.
I started using sparkpeople.com (which is free!!), on May 18th, 2006, and I've lost 55 pounds so far. No gimmicks. I use the food tracker to count every calorie, and I do cardio and light strength training. That site is amazing. You should definitely check it out.

I'd tried 'em all...and yo-yo'ed up a lot and down a little and up more for years. I finally tried the Atkins diet after I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. I lost 90 pounds; had NO desire to cheat because I was never hungry. I told my doctor who is pretty traditional and he smiled and said, "It works." I've kept it off for 6 years with no trouble; have not needed any medication for the diabetes for 5 1/2 years. I have rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and scoliosis so exercising is not something I can do to any great extent. I tried to keep my carb count at 30 grams a day. I ate eggs, hard cheese, all the meat I wanted, and a skinny soup I invented for myself. Basically it was a pot of pork steaks, tomato juice, cabbage, onions, celery, carrots, okra, and a lot of creole seasoning for the heat. I ate all I wanted of it whenever I wanted it. I drank water, diet drinks, tea with sweetener and coffee. I realize this diet would not be good for me if I were to stay on it forever but the weight fell off fast enough I never got tired of it. Now I eat whatever I want (but keep sugars to a minimum). I use 1/4 tsp. cinnamon a day in some food or sugarfree cocoa to keep my glucose in great shape. I don't fluctuate in weight more than a pound or so up or down. I am retired and until I became too limited in mobility, I fished nearly every day and I carried meat, boiled eggs, cucumbers or dill pickles, cheese (cheddar, colby, pepperjack, mozzarelli) , and lettuce leaves with me to eat. I made sandwiches out of the meat and cheese and used lettuce for my "bread". I drank a lot of water and still do. If you've tried all the diets and nothing's worked, I'd suggest you try this.

south beach diet. Go to wal-mart and buy the book for $10. A lot cheaper than joining a club like weight watchers or jenny craig.

I am not a doctor so please by no means think that im telling you correctly. My uncle used this diet and lost 47 pounds. Here is what i reccommended he do-
Eat low starch food
Eat low carb food
Each a lot of chicken, skinless(boiled or baked skinless only, skin adds starch)
Eat rice or vegetables with your chicken.
Now im not saying you cant enjoy that pizza or fattening food, just eat that stuff RARELY! Try chicken and green beans, or chicken and rice or try some chinese food. Have you ever seen a fat chinese person? I HAVENT. Plus, there food is mostly chicken and veggies any ways. So in conclusion-
Eat chicken and vegetables
Eat Salads
Enjoy your favorite, fattening food on occasion.
Stay away from HIGH STARCH foods, like potatoes(Potatoes turn into starch, starch turns into fat)
WARNING:
I am not a doctor or dietician by any means and this is not a "crash diet". Please try a diet that is HEALTHY. Do not starve yourself or make yourself barf after eating, its not good for you and can kill you.

Tomatoes with cucumbers and cheese plus two slices of bread for both breakfast and dinner. For lunch, lots of vegetables with chicken and fish and rice, no bread. Also, I added 80 minutes of intense physical exercises 4 times a week. All these got me back in shape and helped me lose weight (I don't know how much) in about three weeks' time.
