We met the day before he left. We're only 3.5 hours away.

It can work for sure - but it takes a lot of commitment, communication, trust, and patience - more than in a regular relationship in my experience. If you are sure you can trust each other, and know you will work to make the relationship strong then give it a go. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

It definitely can with a lot of effort and trust.
It won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but if you both make an effort you can keep touch through phone calls, instant messaging, webcamming etc.

The biggest ingredient though is you absolutely have to trust the other person so you KNOW that when they say they're working late, that's really what they're doing. If you can't trust them the distance will destroy the relationship.

I dated my fiance (7 years in May) for two years long distance. It can work if you want it to.

Well I will tell you that it is hard to be in one. You have to be commited to the person. It also depends if it is a long term relationship because you met online or if they moved. I mean I have been in a long term relationship twice and it was hard both times. One just could not work out and the other one did.

Of course. BUT, both people have to be fully committed to each other. If one is willing to make it work while the other is not, then there is no way it can last. You also need to be open to different forms of communication. E-mail, texting, and letter writing is a great way! It may seem informal to e-mail back and forth, but it keeps communication open and alive. Keep things changing to prevent boredom, send cards for no reason, call out of the blue. Personally it did not work for me, I was committed he wasn't, but my sister was able to pull it off for two years, and now she's married the guy! They were both fully into it, so it worked... Good luck!

Yes as long as both people are willing to make it work. You have to be good talkers and listeners. Make sure you won't stray from each other to try and the attention you think you need from someone else!
My boyfriend and I are currently doing this and have been for 8 months. He graduated school and went into the "real world" and I am still in college trying to finish my degree!!

Good luck!!

often times it doesn't...but ive been in the same situation and i can say it does work miraculously... well, we survived all trials and difficulties of having a long distance relationship..it really depends on both of you... no matter how far you are with each other, the love, trust, care and respect you have for one another will connect you to the center of your hearts...
