We have Catherine in French which would be the exact translation for Katherine.
For Kate we can say Cat ( pronounce like the English word CAT ). I have a friend we call like that. But there is no Cat name in French. It is only use between friends.
Only Catherine exists

I know a girl whose name is spelled the same way as yours : Katherine and she's a French speaker. But it's true that people tend to write her name with a C so it becomes Catherine but she hates it when people don't spell her namer correctly. But "Kate" is not used in French

The spelling would be the same, with either a K or a C. The pronunciation is KAT-rreen with slightly more stress on the first syllable.
I have heard the 'pet name' Katie being used but never Kate as such.

the French equivalent is Catherine (pronounced catrin)
as a nickname or shortname, we use Cat (like a cat in English) or Cathy (pronounced caty)

Katherine
The origin of this name is from a Greek meaning ‘pure’.
